Approximately 15% of the County's land area is composed of a group of islands 35 miles northwest of the County's mainland.
The County's primary government offices, or County Seat, are located within the City of Charlevoix located on the northwestern part of the County's mainland on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix.
The northeastern portion of the County is the least populated and very rural in character with a majority of its land holdings within the Mackinac State Forest.

Brian Harrison speaking on behalf of the Chamber asked the Township Board to set a public forum meeting date as to whether or not the Township should hold drag racing at the Albert J. Lindberg airport in the summer of 2003.
A letter was received from the Clark Township Assessor Freeborn as well as Freeborn attending the Township Board meeting to talk to the Township Board, letting them know where she is at in her work here in Clark Township.
Moved by Hudson supported by Nye that the property owners of St. Martins Point be allowed to use Clark Township transfer site on a regular basis and to pay the same fee as anyone else.

This section gets my vote for Barry County because there are less people, especially mountain bikers--even though there are only a few continuous miles here (less than three?).
As he remembers, it was not well marked near the campgrounds and they shared a section of the trail with some folks on horseback.
The 3+ mile stretch from Joy Road to Montcalm Avenue is all off-road and passes through a mix of hardwoods in the low lands and pines on the bluffs.
