The library is available to Historic Hudson Valley staff and volunteers, and to scholars and members of the general public whose studies may be advanced by the use of its collections.

Although the events that occurred in the Hudson Highlands during the Revolutionary War were not the war's most decisive, it remained an area to which the British and the Americans gave much of their attention.

In 1959, Claude Monteux, the son of renowned conductor, Pierre Monteux, elevated the orchestra to a fully professional ensemble and renamed it the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Society, Inc. It became a regional orchestra serving Ulster, Orange, Rockland, Columbia and Dutchess counties.
During Maestro Pallo's tenure, the first Hudson Valley Philharmonic opera series was introduced in 1978 and in 1979 a pops series modeled after the successful Boston Pops was introduced.
Today the challenges for the Bardavon and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic are focused on developing new audiences for classical music.
