Hue And Cry are another one of those eighties bands, like Johnny Hates Jazz, that you either loved or hated at the time whilst not denying they produced catchy tunes.
This album shows the band were able to hack it live, not an easy job in the over-stylised synthetic eighties, and includes their 'hits' including 'Just One Word', 'Labour Of Love', 'Strength To Strength' and 'I Refuse'.
There's inevitably some duplication on the second CD as the gig is only eight months after the first, but the band sound in better form and there's even a brief version of Squeeze's 'Tempted'.

This, I thought, must be what they call solidarity: toward the middle, far from the chants of single mothers and HIV + homeless men, were the anarchist majorettes in pink tutus, flanked by a color guard and attended by a drum corps.
The anarchists, marching in step to elaborately choreographed routines, had gotten the bellicose spectacle down: a second group deployed a brass band, whose chant of "Oh-oh George Bush has got to go," was accompanied by the hook from Beyonce's Crazy.
But once the march reached the rally stage at 30th Street and 8th Avenue, it seemed like the anarchists and punk rockers were ringers called in to swell the ranks.

Hue & Cry have flexed their muscles with the odd cover version over the years.
Musically, Greg Kane's moody piano is strong throughout, especially on the songs that bookend the album, "She Moves Through the Wires" and "Pawn of the Weekend." Smith's sax informs the cover of Harry Connick, Jr's "Sonny Cried" with a sound that is both pitying and mockery.
Hue & Cry encourages these questions, but one suspects they'd like to know the answers themselves.
