Huesca is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name.
San Lorenzo, born in Huesca, was bishop of Roma and martyrized by Romans, burnt on a grill, so the grill is the symbol of this saint, and appears in many artistic expressions of the city.
Huesca is notable for the saying "Tomorrow we'll have a coffee in Huesca", which was a running joke among militiamen of the Spanish Civil War.

The entire northern half of Huesca belongs to the mountain system of the Pyrenees, which here attain their greatest altitudes in Aneto, the highest point of the Maladetta ridge (11,168 ft.), and in Monte Perdido (10,997 ft.).
The climate varies much according to the region; in the north, cold winds from the snow-capped Pyrenees prevail, while in the south, the warm summers are often unhealthy from the humidity of the atmosphere.
Monzon, long celebrated as the meeting-place of the Aragonese and Catalonian parliaments, is a town on the lower Cinca, with the ruins of a Roman fortification, and of a 12th century castle, which was owned by the Knights Teinpiar.

Although much of Huesca is taken up by the Pre-Pyrenees, as the foothills are called, it is decidedly a mountain province, with 50 of the 129 peaks of over 3,000 m that exist in the Pyrenees.
Huesca is not a great gastronomic centre, but it is Spain, after all, so you are unlikely to go hungry — just don't expect to find a McDonald's in the middle of a national park.
Most train connections to Jaca or Huesca itself run only once a day, so buses (to Jaca, Huesca, or Benasque) will probably be more feasible, and you may have to allow for changing at Saragossa, overnighting in Huesca, and so on.
