James Callaghan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Callaghan was Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1964 to 1967 during a turbulent period in the British economy in which he had to wrestle with a balance of payments deficit and speculative attacks on the pound sterling.
Callaghan was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in 1947 where his term saw the introduction of zebra crossings, and an extension in the use of cat's eyes.
Callaghan's support for and from the union movement should not be mistaken for a left wing position: unlike Wilson, Callaghan had been a supporter of Hugh Gaitskell in the battles over Labour's direction in the 1950s and he settled old scores by sacking the Bevanite Barbara Castle when he became party leader.

Birmingham Six - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Birmingham Six were six men—Hugh Callaghan, Patrick Hill, Gerard Hunter, Richard McIlkenny, William Power and John Walker—sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 in an infamous miscarriage of justice for two pub bombings in Birmingham, England on November 21, 1974 that killed 21 people.
They were travelling to Belfast to attend the funeral of James McDade, an IRA member who had accidentally killed himself while planting a bomb in Coventry (Hill was also intending to see an aunt in Belfast who was sick and not expected to live).
Callaghan was taken into custody on the evening of November 22.

Callaghan describes the brutal way in which a confession was extracted from him.
But when a screw upbraided Callaghan for emptying his contents in the wrong place and asked if his mates hadn't told him how to do it properly, he just replied, how could they, as he wasn't allowed to talk to them?' "So you can speak up for yourself after all," the screw commented.
Initially Callaghan lived in constant fear of physical and verbal abuse from other prisoners but his sheer guts and blatant innocence won at least a grudging sympathy from all around him.

Hugh Callaghan, a supervisor at the advanced security centre in Ernst and Young’s technology risk services department, spoke at a recent Information Systems Security Association meeting in Dublin and outlined some of the risks that Bluetooth brings.
He adds that one of the main flaws in some phones is that while they have a setting that does not allow them to be ‘discovered’ by other nearby Bluetooth devices, this may not actually work, leaving the phone or PDA open to being compromised.
According to Callaghan, it’s much easier to eavesdrop on a Bluetooth device when it is synchronising with other wirelessly enabled hardware.
