Grundy, now 87, was president of Air America, ostensibly a private airline, but in fact a CIA-front operation that flew secret intelligence missions and carried food, ammunition, supplies and even livestock for anti-Communist fighters in Laos, Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia from the early 1950s to the early 1970s.
But it was so secret that Grundy's wife, Frankie, never knew the true nature of his work until the CIA openly honored him for his service in 2001.
Grundy returned to the United States and worked in Miami until retiring and returning to Washington County in 1984.

Grundy and Argent stuck together, adding new musicians, for one final single, "Imagine the Swan." This "new lineup," minus Grundy, effectively became keyboardist Argent's next band, Argent.

Goldmine Magazine chimed in shortly thereafter, saying that the Zombies trademark had unknowingly lapsed in 1986, clearing the way for a disreputable promoter (who was also, reportedly, the lead singer of this fake band) to swoop in.

Argent formed eponymous progressive band, for which White co-wrote with him; Atkinson and Grundy became CBS A&R men.

Founded by Rod Argent, a classically-trained pianist and brilliant songwriter, the Zombies (also comprised of drummer Hugh Grundy and guitarist Paul Atkinson) quickly roped in the equally gifted Chris White to play bass and share writing duties.
The band is tight, as White’s McCartney-esque bassline mingles with Hugh Grundy’s assured drumming to provide a steady backbeat for the many layered vocals and for Argent’s lovely Mellotron strings.
To compare the Zombies to other artists denies their own unique sound, but it is not an exaggeration to say that “Care of Cell Block 44” sounds like the perfect marriage of Rubber Soul and Pet Sounds.

Argent may have the most fluid at his instrument, but Paul Atkinson's guitar work is surprising sometimes, and Hugh Grundy was one of the most intelligent users of him drum kit around.
Their biggest problem seems to have been that they were too complex for success.
Instrumentally the band is fine- Argent gets in some nice work periodically, Blunstone is great, and even Atkinson's acoustic 12-string playing is more than adequate, and Hugh Grundy is a sadly overlooked period drummer (although I can never identify why I think so).
