Shearer stood by the ban claiming that Rodney was a danger to Jamaica, citing his socialist ties, trips to Cuba and the USSR, as well as his radical Black nationalism.
Shearer was generally uncomfortable with notions of pan-Africanism or militant fl nationalism.

To overcome this, links with the Privy Council were partially severed in February 2001, when Jamaica, along with eight other Caribbean nations and Guyana, signed an agreement ending its role as their highest court of criminal appeal.

The abolition of appeals to the Privy Council effected by this legislation will be subject, however, to certain transitional provisions in relation to proceedings pending when the Act comes into force and judgments remaining unsatisfied at that date.

The CCJ is slated to replace the Privy Council as the final court of appeal for criminal and civil matters for several Caribbean countries.

Washington was elected to represent Frederick Co. in the House of Burgesses in 1758 and 1761.
Shearer were not finished in their business; however, on 22 May 1751, George Pearis, John Smith and Thomas Wood witnessed Walker pay Shearer 10 pounds, 10 shillings and 7 pence for a large chestnut mare (natural pacer) with a star on her forehead and one white hind foot and a brand on the shoulder.
Old Hop summoned Pearis to the council house and berated him for his poor etiquette and failure to produce the goods promised.
