A total of $317,750 in block grants from the state Commerce Department were allocated for a variety of rehabilitation projects that include repaving county roads, sidewalk repair and handicap accessability, fire equipment and construction of an athletic park throughout the county.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 12) -- A state grant will finance enlarging a Hughes County rural water district to add new customers in a neighboring county, Rep. Dale Turner and Sen. Dick Wilkerson announced Tuesday.
Engineer Phil Brown said Hughes County Rural Water District #5 buys water from Holdenville that is pumped through six miles of pipe to a water storage standpipe and is distributed through various sizes of lines to more than 200 customers.
Gail Kiker, RWD#5 treasurer, said the expansion will allow the district to buy water from Wewoka for the new Seminole County customers, and water purchased from Holdenville will be used as a backup water supply for them.
