The superstitious locals believe the murders to be the fulfillment of a curse placed on them in the 17th century by Baron Von Klaus, a sadistic libertine who killed many women before dying in the swamps surrounding his castle.
The Baron's spirit is said to live on in his male descendants, but von Klaus heir Ludwig (Hugo Blanco) doesn't arrive in town until the day after the latest murder.
He is entrusted with a key to his ancestor's torture dungeon and begged to bring an end to the family curse by visiting it, destroying it, and leaving the castle, never to return again.

In certain zones at least, the struggle had already reached a climax – it is sufficient to note that the main inspirer and organizer of the peasants, Hugo Blanco, had already been held long months in prison at Arequipa.
But Hugo Blanco, whose name appears almost everywhere on the walls of the houses in Cuzco, and is even painted on the Inca ruins, astonishing the few American tourists, dominates the scene everywhere as the main inspirer, the genuine leader of the revolutionary peasant movement.
The shadow of Hugo Blanco was present at all the interviews I conducted in the South.

 El secreto del Dr. Orloff
The Argentinean actor Hugo Blanco, last seen in Franco’s previous horror entry, THE SADISTIC BARON VON KLAUS, plays Andros, but this nude insert sloppily reveals another actor reflected in a mirror, giving direction to the actress (no less!) or cursing at her, it is unclear which.
Andros (Hugo Blanco), the robot/slave who murders for Fisherman, is the result, a radio controlled zombie out of a science fiction scenario who will be torn between his implanted switchboard and still flickering emotional life.
Hugo Blanco's face suggests a mask of pathos as his Andros kills his way into oblivion.

Blanco, a communist and peasant leader, had been jailed for his work organizing a mass movement of peasants to seize land from the wealthy landowners in Peru’s La Convención Valley in 1961-62.
The fight to save Blanco’s life, gain his freedom, obtain legal status for him in several successive countries of exile, and win his right to travel—including to the United States—unfolded through the entire life of USLA.
In 1977, USLA helped win a visa for Hugo Blanco to speak in the United States and organized a tour for him.

Last year, USLA announced it was launching a campaign of its own against the State Department’s barring from the U.S. of Hugo Blanco, a Peruvian peasant leader and spokesman for the United Secretariat of the Fourth International (where he is a member of the same international faction which the SWP supports).
When the PDC took the initiative in calling a demonstration on behalf of Blanco in San Francisco on October 16, USLA and the SWP openly worked to sabotage it, proclaiming they would contact sponsoring organizations and urge them to withdraw their backing.
An SWP supporter intervened into a meeting on the Berkeley campus to insist that Blanco wanted only telegrams to Kissinger and that people should not participate in activities in defense of Blanco unless they were initiated by USLA.

Her uncle, Dr. Conrad Fisherman (Marcelo Arroita Jáureguio), is meanwhile conducting experiments with a human automaton (Hugo Blanco).
Fisherman — a disciple of the mad Dr. Orloff from a previous Franco film — programs the "monster" to track down strippers to whom Fisherman has given a necklace that beams an attracting signal to the obedient slave.

The organization of farmers in the La Convención Valley of Cusco, beginning locally in 1951 and with the aid of Trotskyite Hugo Blanco starting in 1960, was the most visible of various efforts in rural Peru in the 1950s and 1960s pushing for land reform.
The farmers' movement in La Convención whose principal tactic was to occupy land was successful only after a period of violent confrontation with landowners, police, and military and the capture of Blanco and most of his partisans in May 1963.
It was the first example of substantial, locally organized pressure for agrarian reform.

LA MANO DE UN HOMBRE MUERTO/THE HAND OF THE DEAD MAN (1962) was the "blanco y negro" horror follow-up to Franco's landmark GRITOS EN LA NOCHE/CRIES IN THE NIGHT (1961).
The Spanish title and poster art may bring to mind THE HANDS OF ORLAC, but the film's Orlacian borrowings, linked craftily on-screen and off by the piano score of Franco composer Daniel White, are bastardized and kept simmering in the background except for a stronger emphasis or two.
