Tool turns English to code TRN 032305
Formal computer programming languages are difficult to write and inflexible, said Hugo Liu, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Metafor organizes a natural-language description of a program into the skeleton of a program by mapping the inherent structure of English -- parts of speech, syntax, and subject-verb-object roles -- into a basic programmatic structure of class objects, properties, functions, and if-then rules, said Liu.
The subjects' quickly began using language that was simple and declarative, which, in turn, improved the usefulness of the system for brainstorming and outlining, he said.

In addition to an extremely sophisticated full-sentence-cognizant interface, Hugo also allows a developer to incorporate graphics and video (which are optional for those who lack either the hardware or inclination to view them) as well as sound effects, music, and mouse control.
The complete Hugo system consists of several parts, the most important of which are the Hugo Compiler and the Hugo Engine—the former takes text-format source code and turns it into a playable format understood by the latter.
The Hugo language itself is an easy to learn, highly object-oriented language which encompasses the best elements of elegance, simplicity, clarity, and power of modern programming languages.

Programming, then, is the art of constructing a story about the objects in the program and what they do in various situations.
Simple descriptions of program objects and their behavior are converted to scaffolding (underspecified) code fragments, that can be used as feedback for the designer, and which can later be elaborated.
To be a practical, multi-purpose language, Frink also incorporates text processing, the ability to utilize Internet-based data sources, arbitrary-precision math, object-oriented programming, design by contract, date/time mathematics, and an extensive standard library of data to streamline calculations.

LSE consists of a library of components, the Liberty Simulator Specification (LSS) language, and a tool that constructs a simulator based on the library and an LSS provided by the user.
The LSS language is unique in that it is designed not to specify the execution of a simulator, but rather to specify how components should be composed and customized to build a simulator.
The LSS language combines several programming language techniques, including type inference and aspects, and non-standard evaluation semantics for object instantiation to ease the construction of simulators.
