  Aysen Region - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name Aysen, has an indigenous origin, and comes from the Huilliche word "Achen" that means "to crumble".
The physical relation between Culture of Huilliches and Culture of Chonos is a signal of the name's origin.
In spite of the clear historical references, the rumor has taken forces this last time, appearing in tourist script writings, surely due to the great arrival of European tourists who visit these land of the Patagonia every year.

This book/record shows the different fabrication stages of six huilliche musical instruments: chinko, korneta, rali or kultrung, trompe, drum and trutruka.

The Huilliche Grand Council affirms that land rights conflicts have become more acute since the Asian lumber company Golden Spring purchased 3,000 hectares of a property that have historically belonged to native people of the area.
Twelve years ago Huilliches lost access to the forest and today they are about to lose access to the sea, the only source of subsistence that remains for them.
The Huilliche Council also notes that it has yet to receive a response to their voiced concern about another environmental encroachment, the wood chip project in Quellon at the extreme southern zone of the island.

Before the Spanish arrived in 1541, the Mapuche occupied a vast territory in the “southern cone” of the continent and the population numbered about 2 million.
The Mapuche nation comprised both settled and nomadic communities, hunters, shepherds and farmers, living in small family groups which were under authority of a Lonko (chief), and formed part of bigger regional communities, such as the Pehuenches, Huilliches, Tehuelches, Ranquilches, etc..
They do not accept their eventual “pacification” by the State of Chile in 1883 as having been a conquest.
