Warner exhausted in his business energy his stock of vitality, and when commercial success had rewarded him, and the prospect of an easy future dawned upon him, he was quite broken in health; - so much so that his physicians thought he could not live a year.
Warner in 1882 was elected a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, at the Montreal session.
Warner is a conservative Republican in politics, and though he has never sought political preferment, he was unanimously elected a delegate to the national Republican convention which met in Chicago on the 3d of June, 1884.

Today, Hulbert Harrington Warner-a onetime patent medicine king who served as the Rochester Chamber of Commerce's first president-is virtually forgotten, while George Eastman remains an almost tangible force in the community.
Warner sold his company to an English syndicate, which turned out not to have the founder's flair for running the firm.
All that remains of Warner Co. today are old patent medicine bottles and advertising art preserved by collectors and the firm's former St. Paul Street headquarters building, now a class B office structure called Warner Place.

Born in 1842, Hulbert Harrington Warner grew up on a farm near Syracuse, New York, but he had no desire to be a farmer.
Warner suffered one early bankruptcy - a rite of passage for businessmen in those days - but he recovered to make millions selling fireproof safes to oil drillers.
He funded the H.H. Warner Observatory in Rochester to the tune of $100,000, and tried to expand beyond patent medicines.

His patron was the Rochester patent medicine businessman Hulbert Harrington Warner, who financed the building of an observatory for Swift.
Warner went bankrupt in the Panic of 1893, which ended his financial support, and Swift then went to California to become director of Lowe Observatory.
He was married twice, first to Lucretia Hunt in 1850 and then to Carrie D. Topping in 1864.

Irene was born Sept. 6, 1930, daughter of Urban and Mae (Haley) Terrill in Manchester, N.H. She was married on July 4, 1953, to Walter J. Warner Sr.
She leaves behind a lot of us; three sons, our older brother, and his wife, Allen K. Harrington and his wife, Christine and Daniel B. Ranks and his wife, Cindy.
She married Lloyd W. Harrington in 1930 and together they raised three sons, Raymond L., another son, and Allen K. There was an older brother mom gave up to let God raise for her.
