By 1885 Kingston Amateurs, had played at three grounds, Albert Street, Analby Road and now Chalk Lane, the club name was also changed to Kingston Rovers as they entered the Times cup in the 1885/86 season, in the first round they pulled off an unexpected win against Hessle.
Hull KR amalgamated with Albany soccer club, who later changed their name to Hull City A.F.C. Rovers won the Yorkshire cup for the first time beating Shipley 11-5 in the final.
Rovers were now the only R.U club in a N.U. area and applied to join the N.F.U and Rovers played there first match under the new code in 1897/98, the Challenge Cup was also invented this year.

Rovers worked a move with Agar and Millward getting Lowe moving but Wileman was severly cautioned after flooring Millward off the ball resulting in Millwards jaw being broken.
In the 28th minute Hull got on the scoreboard, Wilby went over the line despite the presence of Casey and Hubbard, the conversion was missed and the score was 7-3.
