The Hull and Barnsley Railway was formed form the earlier Hull, Barnsley and West Riding Junction Railway, officially gaining the HandBR title from July 1st, 1905.
An amazing surval at Hull Cannon St station, the old gates, still lettered "HandB Rly".
The Canon Street terminus in Hull was closed on July 14th 1924 after which services were diverted to Hull Paragon whilst freight continued at Canon Street until 1964.

The West Park story begins in the early 1920's when the Hull & Barnsley Railway Company recognised the need for a passenger station in a more central location of Hull than the existing station in Cannon Street.
With a small distortion of history West Park was built to compete with the L.N.E.R. Paragon Station in Hull City centre.
West Park is intended to represent the 'Modern Image Era' in the 1970's to early 1980's period with blue diesels being the main motive power present, although steam specials can also be seen in the area.

Although the majority of emigrants were only in Hull for a short period of time, the emigrant waiting room at Paragon Railway Station was doubled in size in 1881 due to the numbers of transmigrants passing through the town.
A second emigrant railway platform was built in 1885, but this was by the Hull and Barnsley Railway Company who had built the facilities as part of their new dock - the Alexandra Dock.
This was the first purpose-built dockside railway platform for emigrants, with deeper docks to cater for larger steamships and a longer platform for the large numbers of emigrants who needed to board the long emigrant trains to Liverpool.

The Steam Packet Wharf adjoined the river Humber and was immediately next to the offices of one of Hull's earliest known emigrant agents (Richard Cortis) who operated from the Minerva Hotel.
