Devils and vices in English non-cycle plays: Sacrament and social body
Humanum Genus is thus introduced as "nakyd of lym and lende [loin]," clothed only in "A sely crysme min hed hath cawth,/ Pat I tok at min crystenynge."' His nakedness symbolizes his innocence, which is protected from the fiend only by his baptism ("A crysyme I haue and no moo" [1.
The threat to Humanum Genus is both individual and social, both to his own salvation and to the wholeness of the social body.
Just as Humanum Genus's baptism, his "christening," is a sign of his induction into the community of Christians, so his lapse into the devils' camp is not merely an individual moral failure; it is the failure of a society, whose wholeness derived from the Mass.

As Pope Leo XIII noted in Humanum Genus, the philosophy of Freemasonry seeks to separate the Church from the State.
It is an especially important goal of Freemasonry to undermine the sanctity and the stability of the family by a variety of means, including the state control of education.
Apart from the papal encyclical letters on Freemasonry, including Humanum Genus, there are superb summaries of the ethos of the Lodge in Father Denis Fahey's The Mystical Body of Christ in the Modern World and in the Father E. Cahill's The Framework of the Christian State.

The gist of their rhetoric is the supposition of a Jewish-Communist-Masonic conspiracy culminating with the supra-secret order 'The Illuminati' who are the perpetrators of the United Nations in an age old master- plot of world domination.
This position is also found in the Humanum Genus document which alludes to the Freemasonry-Communism connection: "...subversive revolution is the deliberate aim and open purpose of numerous communistic and socialistic associations.

Humanum Genus (on Freemasonry) was a papal encyclical promulgated on April 20, 1884, by Pope Leo XIII.
It starts by using the Augustinian concept of the two cities, the City of Man and the City of God.
So although individual Masons were decent people, they were being led to do evil things.

Encyclical Letter of Pope Leo XIII on Freemasonry
Many people may ask what is so wrong with being a Mason, all the more so since even the members of the lower degrees of Freemasonry are not even aware of its real evil objectives.
So it will be of interest to all to read what Pope Leo XIII wrote on April 20, 1884, a special encyclical letter (called “Humanum genus”) addressed to all the Bishops of the world, on the very subject of Freemasonry.
The one is the kingdom of God on earth, namely, the true Church of Jesus Christ; and those who desire from their heart to be united with it, so as to gain salvation, must of necessity serve God and His only-begotten Son with their whole mind and with an entire will.

His Holiness went on to list a few problems he faced, including "the abominable conspiracy against clerical celibacy, demands to relax the indissolubility of marriage, indifferentism, by which it is claimed eternal salvation is available to everyone regardless of their religious affiliations."
Some years later, in 1884, Pope Leo XIII, in Humanum Genus, his detailed encyclical against Freemasonry, identified "the perverse influence of Masonic opinions" as the source of the problems encountered by Gregory XVI.
Humanum Genus is particularly important, because Leo stated precisely how he knew about the Fraternity by: its activities; various investigations of the Craft; its laws and commentaries; and knowledge provided by personal testimony of those who were in on the secret.

When the Piedmontese took Perugia from the Pope in 1860, Pecci stood up to what he considered the "anti-clericals." His vigorous defense did not go unnoticed, for in 1877 Pius IX called him to Rome and made him camerlengo.
The 1884 "Humanum Genus" shocked the democratic world and led to considerable distrust of the Vatican's motives among the free nations, especially the United States where massive and deeply-rooted anti-Catholic bias was generated by the wide distribution the encyclical received.
This encyclical, written to condemn the men's fraternal Order known as Freemasonry, in fact condemned those practices that most countries of the free world held to be the bulwarks of democracy and personal liberty.

It had been always a puzzle to me that, in spite of the condemantion of Freemasonry by Pope Leo XIII in his encyclical ‘Humanum Genus’ (and by thirteen other popes as well, starting with Clement XII in 1738), there were Freemasons in the higher authorities of the Church.

If the Encyclical Letter of Leo XIII., entitled, from its opening words, “HUMANUM GENUS,” had been nothing more than a denunciation of Freemasonry, I should not have thought it worth replying to.
It was the signal for the outbreaking of an already organized conspiracy against the peace of the world, the progress of intellect, the emancipation of humanity, the immunity of human creatures from arrest, imprisonment, torture, and murder by arbitrary power, the right of men to the free pursuit of happiness.
What these “intentions” are, the Letter HUMANUM GENUS does not permit the world to doubt.

Because of the secrecy inherent in freemasonry, it was perceived to have an enormous amount of secret discipline of its members — which was seen by the Pope as enslavement.

In his encyclical "Humanum Genus" Pope Leo XIII wrote: "There exists in the world a certain number of sects which although seemingly different one from another as to name, ritual, form and origin are, however, similar due to the analogy of their aim and chief principles.
Let us, therefore, expose Freemasonry as the enemy of God, of the Church and of our Motherland.
