Humber was a British automobile marque which could date its beginnings to Thomas Humber's bicycle company founded in 1868.
The first car was produced in 1898 and was a three-wheeled tricar with the first conventional four-wheeled car appearing in 1901.
Its last car was the Humber Sceptre, an upmarket version of the Hillman Minx.

The styling of the last Humbers was recognised by the fashion-conscious Italians themselves in 1957 and 1958, when Humber cars received top awards in the annual Rome Concours d'Elegance competition.

Larger cars came in the shape of the 1902 four-cylinder 12hp, which was soon followed up in 1903 by a three-cylinder 9hp and a four-cylinder 20hp model.
Until 1908, Humber cars continued to be produced in Coventry and Beeston, but thanks to financial difficulties, the Beeston factory was closed (despite producing higher quality cars); engineer Coatalen to rival Hillman, and two-cylinder models were brought back.
Humbers were now positioned as the more expensive cars in the Rootes range, being positioned above Hillman as it was, and thanks to stylish bodies by Pressed Steel, the company's reputation was a good one.
