The median income for a household in the county is $35,786, and the median income for a family is $42,129.

All of Humphreys County was granted by the State of North Carolina at the time this was a portion of that State, to survivors of the Continental war, and was afterward farmed out in smaller tracts to the settlers as they arrived from the older States.
Humphreys County is bounded on the north by Houston County, on the east by Dickson and Hickman County, on the south by Perry County and on the west by Benton County, and has an area of 375 square miles.
Waverly, the county seat of Humphreys County, is a flourishing inland town of about 800 inhabitants, and is situated very near the center of the county on the St. Louis branch of the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway, sixty-seven miles west of Nashville and eleven miles east of Johnsonville on the Tennessee River.

Andrew J. Peebles, a minister and farmer, was born in Carter County, January 16, 1829, the son of William and Elizabeth (Sheets) Peebles, the former a native of Carter County, and died in 1875, at the age of eighty-nine.

 Latimer Cemetery, Halls Creek, Humphreys County, Tennessee
Located on land purchased by Lynde Lyons Latimer, son of Jonathan Latimer, III, of Sumner County, Tennessee, Latimer Cemetery is the "family burying place" of Lynde Latimer's clan.
By deed A-262 Lynde first purchased land on Halls Creek in Humphreys County in 1815 and again in 1820 by deed B-421.
Lynde died in 1844, and after the death of his wife, Mary (Polly) Hamilton in 1854, sons, Robert Alexander Latimer and Albert Latimer bought their siblings' interest in the land.

Benjamin Grubb Humphreys (1808-1882), a native of Claiborne County, was educated in New Jersey and entered West Point in the same class with Robert E. Lee in 1825, but he was dismissed from the academy for participating in a Christmas frolic that turned into a riot.
He returned to Mississippi, represented Claiborne County in the State Legislature from 1839 to 1844, and moved to Sunflower County, where he became a successful planter, in 1846.
Benjamin G. Humphreys was the grandson of Major David Smith, for whom Smith County was named.
