Taking diplomats on a tour of the islands last week, Braganza handed out "Adventure Hundred Islands" T-shirts and caps as he spoke about the re-launch -- to be timed with the fiesta season in May -- of the island cluster back among the country's top tourist attractions.
Braganza has made the revival of the Hundred Islands as an eco-tourism destination his priority since winning the mayorship last year, when the former congressman and Cabinet secretary made a surprising exit from the national stage and returned to small-town politics.
To discourage such destructive practices, the Hundred Islands revival program will not be all about tourism but will have a "livelihood component." The master plan designates aquaculture zones in waters outside the park, where there will be sections devoted to oyster or seaweed farming, for example.
