Some proponents of Hunnic - Hungarian relation claim that the Huns were allied with and/or related to the Magyars (Hungarians), but were eventually assimilated without leaving many traces of Hunnic in the Hungarian language (which has a completely different origin).
Many hypothesize that the language was similar to the Turkic language spoken by Volga Bulghars.
Unfortunately these names are next-to-useless in trying to place Hunnic on a language family tree, because they seemed to have borne no relation to their wearers nationality.
