Hunt County is a county located in the state of Texas.
Hunt County is named for Memucan Hunt, a secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas.
In the county, the population is spread out with 26.50% under the age of 18, 10.00% from 18 to 24, 28.00% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 12.60% who are 65 years of age or older.

The soil on the uplands in Hunt County is predominantly loamy or clayey and loamy.
From a population of 6,630, with 412 farms and a cotton crop of twenty-two bales in 1860, Hunt County had grown to a population of 47,295, with 5,946 farms and a cotton crop in excess of 50,000 bales in 1900.
County population declined from 48,793 in 1940 to 39,399 in 1960.

The first permanent African American residents of Hunt County were slaves who came to settle the area with the first settlement families around 1843.
Before emancipation was announced in Hunt County sometime in the late summer or early fall of 1865, Brigham had managed to purchase not only his freedom but the freedom of his wife and some of their children.

Hunt is at the junction of the north and south forks of the Guadalupe River, twelve miles west of Kerrville in central Kerr County.
