Spyro the Dragon (series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spyro the Dragon is a platform game series starring the video game character Spyro, which was originally released for the PlayStation.
In this episode of the series, the small dragon also meets a number of new allies, including the Professor, Hunter the cheetah, Elora the faun, and Zoe the fairy, and must face a new foe: Ripto, a tiny mean Riptoc, equipped with a magic scepter, and protected by Crush and Gulp, two dim-witted dinosaurs.
Spyro: Season of Ice (known as Spyro Advance in Japan) (July 2001), probably the most challenging in the series as you are required to collect ALL of the missing "main items" in order to beat the game.

Spyro: A Hero's Tail for PlayStation 2 Reviews at DealTime.co.uk   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Spyro's tale that has this little dragon trekking across the land to hunt for and smash these dark gems is also very unappealing, given that the characters of the story are so...uninspiring.
Spyro doesn't literally wear those items...but in a sense, his attitude is made of the generic metaphorical sunglasses and jacketed figure.
Spyro can toss items at enemies himself if he wants, although this requires that either he pick up certain tossable grenades by chance from containers, or stock up on enough gems from containers or fallen enemies to stop by one of the many vendor stations to buy assorted goods from a very fruity French bear.

Also, a strong central character serves as an almost iconic representation of the game, which is damn useful as a shorthand for facilitating word-of-mouth, and is useful for all sorts of marketing hooks; furthermore, a successful character is a good, perhaps even the best, way to build a franchise.
And, if your character isn't human, your background has to go a lot further, explaining exactly what, in your universe, it means to be a hobbit, or a Jedi knight, or an outcast half-orc half-troll, or what it means to be a robot warrior with a malfunctioning ethics chip.

Spyro: A Hero's Tail Impressions - PlayStation 2 News at GameSpot
According to the game's story, Spyro must rescue the world from the influence of "dark gems," which are evil jewels that have been scattered throughout the land by the evil Red, a dragon who was banished from the elder dragon council.
Spyro's new abilities include a horn dive (an attack that lets him drop onto his opponents, horn-first, from midair), a ledge grab (an attack that lets him latch onto ledges so that he can clamber up them), and a wall kick (an attack that lets him make his way up opposing wall faces).
One such character is Hunter the cheetah, who can walk upright, double-jump, perform a midair-stomp attack, fight enemies up close with a simple set of combination attacks, and fire arrows with a longbow, as well as shield himself from attacks by spinning his bow rapidly.

Spyro: A Hero’s Tail Review (Xbox)
Spyro the Dragon is a familiar character in the world of videogames, spawning a franchise that has sold more than 13 million copies since his debut on the Playstation in 1998.
Spyro will find his dragonfly sidekick, Sparx, at his side as he is also joined by Hunter the Cheetah, Sgt. Byrd the dive-bombing penguin, and Blinky the Mole; making his debut appearance in A Hero’s Tail.
Each of the characters will come into action as they are brought into the gameplay through animation scenes that tie them into the storyline, so the transitions between characters is pretty well done as to not mix things up too much while also giving players a reason for the switch in controls.

Restrictions could be placed on it by Spyro requiring a certain distance of flat ground from which to take off, plus a minimum width in order for him to unfurl his wings.
In a plot development, Spyro could end up with a crippled wing in the later levels, restricting him to gliding - or this could happen at the very start of the game until a suitable healing substance is found.
It could transpire that Spyro's full name is Spyridion ('Spiridion' is a real name in Greece and is often shortened to 'Spiro'), a name which I think would be more fitting for an adult dragon.

Spyro, the little purple dragon, has emotion in the way he talks, he cares obviously about his friends, but, his actions are very basic, which is something characters need, a define characteristic of movements and actions.
The survival horror genre, is an interesting one though, because instead of making you feel scared for the character, you almost embody that character, take on their emotion, and feel scared, as if you are that person.
Now, for characters like Megaman, there is no love interest, but there is one simple fact of all good guys, they are there to do one main thing, save the world.

You'll get Spyro's moves down pat just about as quickly as you can pick up the controller, and the different variations on the controls from character to character is just as easy to grasp.
The characters a rendered well, and the same could be said for the environments, however they could have used a bit more detail.

Spyro: A Hero’s Tail marks the latest title in the long-running Spyro franchise to hit the current generation of consoles.
Spyro: A Hero’s Tale follows the young dragon through the Dragon Realm as he embarks on a quest to stop Red, a huge red dragon, from spreading Dark Gems across the land.
Graphically, Spyro looks very good, although certainly not an indication of what the Xbox is truly capable of, which is understandable considering that the game was also developed on the PS2.

Spyro the Dragon has become a very recognizable character on the video game landscape.
Both characters have unique controls, and unique levels designed for them, to make sure that there is plenty of variation between their levels and the levels that you play as Spyro (which will probably make up most of the game, since it is named after him).
The basic control mechanic is the same for him as it is for Spyro- his levels consist mainly of platforming, and he has the jump and double jump abilities to help him reach each area.

Spyro: A Hero’s Tail from Eurocom and Vivendi Universal is a three-dimensional romp that is vibrant and lush, and host of other adjectives that cannot begin to describe the eye candy that this PlayStation 2 title brings to the gaming console.
As for save games, there is a Tinkerbelle-esque fairy that pops up along the way and explains that every time she hits him with her wand (which she demonstrates, and Spyro’s eyes cross and seem to go fuzzy) it allows the game’s progress to be saved … and Spyro loses a million brain cells.
Spyro: A Hero’s Tail certain follows an arcade-like linear path, but this game is what those titles are all about.
