Batman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After the introduction of DC Comics' multiverse in the 1960s, it was retroactively established that the Golden Age Batman lived on the parallel world of Earth-Two.
In recent comics, the idea was introduced of Batman being an urban legend; however, this notion is contradicted by various previous stories.
In modern comics, Batman is shown to have become steadily paranoid over the years and tends to not trust other heroes, even those he has known for years, like Superman, and some enemies have used this to isolate the Dark Knight.

Sequential Tart: The Huntress and the Hunted (vol III/iss 4/April 2000)
The Huntress is one of humanity's most ancient symbols: a woman armed with bow and arrow, spear or sword, hunting her quarry in a dark wood, with the moon at her back.
The Huntress is one of those rare characters who has the ability to capture a reader's attention and loyalty, no matter how abysmally she may be treated by The Powers That Be.
In our modern mythology, the Huntress haunts not a dark wood but the asphalt jungle; and her prey are not the deer and the rabbit, but human predators who live off the fear and misery of others.

Comics are a different medium and deserve to be appreciated on their own merit...even if the filmed versions aren't.
Whenever Hollywood has opted to deviate from comic book source material and characters to do their own version of what they THINK a comic book movie should be, it's usually been disastrous.
Each Director looks at his love for the comic and the medium and creates a film that is representative of his vision. He doesnt write it...but he does have a large say in the rewrites.

The first thing to acknowledge about this collection of the six-part miniseries from 2000 is that Batman, despite being the first named character in the title of the book, plays only a peripheral role in the story.
It doesn't exactly play fair with the buying public, and I personally detest this type of sales tactic, but to be fair to the publishers at least the word "Huntress" is in larger type and a nicer font than "Batman", and the back cover pretty much makes it clear that Batman is not really involved.
This is the life story of Helena Bertinelli, aka The Huntress, a vigilante closer to the Bat-family than Catwoman, but still treated with suspicion and held at arm's length by them.

Much of the issue was spent wondering who Cucilla was and whether I was missing important information, but the explanation provided explains why we didn't know much about her and made the wondering a big part of why the story worked.
That she wasn't sure what the situation was and that she made the right call anyway suggests a heroic nature, that perhaps she is more suited to costumed work than to her duties as a bodyguard.
However, the heart of the issue is the tension between Huntress and Sasha, and that's a lot of fun.

He painted the official poster for the Academy Awards last year and did the cover of "9-11," a volume of comics benefiting the families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks; the original painting hung for a time in the Library of Congress.
Ross has worked with the writer Paul Dini, producing five large-format comic book "tabloids" including "Superman: Peace on Earth" and "Batman: War on Crime." DC Comics plans to unleash the latest, "Justice League: Liberty and Justice," this year.

In considering how best to "save" the comics industry, many fans and writers are of the opinion that the classic icons of comics need to act their age.
However, as Tart Marcia Allass points out, the goal shouldn't be to twist the characters to suit an aging and dwindling audience, but rather to bring them back to their timeless, archetypal roots and allow those who want the "grim and gritty" to fully develop new characters of their own, outside of the Comics Code.
Tart Jennifer Contino questions some professionals in the comics industry and gets their take on the issue.
