Hurons were the weaker party, they were attacked and either massacred on the spot, or reserved for torture at the stake; and when they were the stronger, the wily Iroquois hung upon their trail and cut off every straggler.

Huron villages were varied in size, but the larger ones were usually fortified and had populations well over 1,000.
The original Huron clan names have been lost, but they were grouped into three phratries (clan groupings for ceremonial and social purposes) corresponding roughly to names of the member tribes: Bear, Cord, and Rock.
Unique to the Huron was the "Feast of the Dead." Held every 10-12 years, the remains of all who had died since the last ceremony were disinterred and re-buried in communal burial pit.

Corn was a primary crop that was grown by the Hurons, however later the "three sister" crops of Amerindian agriculture, which included corn, beans, and squash, were grown together as a principal food source.

The growing amount of railroad traffic in Port Huron created confusion for many mariners when the locomotive headlamps were seen to shine as brightly as the Fresnel in the lighthouse.
As a current member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, he has some great stories to tell both about the lighthouse and his own life, and he was a joy to be with as he showed his collection of artifacts, explained the history of the Light, and took us to the top of the tower.
