		Huron was at the center of the "Firelands" of the Connecticut Western Reserve, lands offered to residents of Connecticut who had lost property to British raiders during the American Revolutionary War.
		Huron was also the home port of several commercial fishing fleets before lake pollution decimated the industry on Lake Erie in the early 1970's.
		Huron is the home of the Huron Playhouse, a division of the Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film.

		A series of science educational plaques have begun to appear along the Huron River Greenway, dedicated to the memory of the late R. Thomas Shontz, a retired science teacher at Huron High School who passed away in 2004 after a battle with colon cancer.
		The plan is to erect 12 informational plaques along 2+ miles of trail; representing the sun and each of the nine known planets in the solar system, with two plaques at each end of the Greenway between the DuPont Marsh and Mason Road trailheads explaining the project.
