Huron County located in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in the thumb area, is made up of 27 townships and an area of about 480,000 acres.
Huron County was attached originally to Sanilac and Tuscola Counties, and later organized by an Act of Legislature in 1859.
The county was aided by the State early, which organized a system of building through different parts of the country what was called "State Roads".

HURON COUNTY — A $408,000 Michigan State University research project funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under its National Research Initiative program is currently attempting to determine how high-speed Internet access might affect rural communities across the country.
Huron County was chosen for Michigan State's portion of the study because it is the site of a broadband Internet access project also funded by USDA through Air Advantage.
In addition, a sample survey of Huron County residents to identify barriers to home broadband adoption took place last winter, and this was followed by a baseline mail survey of 800 county residents this past week.
