Huron is the home of the Huron Playhouse, a division of the Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film.

The Huron River watershed is located on the south shore of Lake Erie between Toledo and Cleveland, in Huron, Erie, Seneca, Richland and Crawford counties.
Even with the increase in conservation tillage practices on agricultural lands during the last ten years, the Huron River remains as having among the highest suspended sediment yields in the state of Ohio, and the second highest in the Lake Erie Basin, according to the soil conservation service.
Ohio EPA conducted biological surveys within the watershed in 1998 and again in 2002, and found impairment of the aquatic life and recreation designated uses.

The Wyandots were allies of the French until British traders moved into the Ohio country around A.D. The French pushed the British out of Ohio and the Wyandot were forced to be allies of the French again until the British victory in the French and Indian War.

The Huron River Greenway Trail was opened in May of 1999.
River Road in Huron Township has been re-paved in places to include wider shoulders for the safety of walkers and bicyclists.
The City of Huron is also planning an extensive reconstruction of River Road inside the city limits (beginning late 2001 or early 2002) that will also include bicycle/pedestrian lanes.

While camped along the Missouri River, illness went through the camp and 50 to 100 of the Wyandots died.
Their bodies were carried across the river to the Kansas Territory, to a ridge which overlooked the Kansas and Missouri Rivers and Kansas City's Huron Indian Cemetery was established.

A series of science educational plaques have begun to appear along the Huron River Greenway, dedicated to the memory of the late R. Thomas Shontz, a retired science teacher at Huron High School who passed away in 2004 after a battle with colon cancer.
The plan is to erect 12 informational plaques along 2+ miles of trail; representing the sun and each of the nine known planets in the solar system, with two plaques at each end of the Greenway between the DuPont Marsh and Mason Road trailheads explaining the project.
