Hurricane Wilma became one of the fastest-intensifying hurricanes on record, and later strengthened unexpectedly in the face of strong wind shear.

Arlene is the first named tropical system of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane season.
Tropical Storm Arlene developed on June 8 from a region of tropical thunderstorms and rotation in the atmosphere in the western Caribbean, north of Honduras.
It is not unusual for storms early in the Atlantic hurricane season to develop in the western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Tropical Storm Arlene weakened as it blew ashore Saturday on the Gulf Coast, but still packed enough punch that it brought sheets of rain, 20-foot waves and heavy wind to the same area that was devastated by Hurricane Ivan nine months ago.
Arlene came ashore a bit east of where Ivan hit with 120-mph wind on Sept. 16.
Arlene later weakened to a tropical depression with top sustained winds of 30 mph and was centered about 75 miles south of Tuscaloosa, Ala., at 11 p.m.
