The 1998 Atlantic hurricane season was the second deadliest season on record.
Danielle was named on August 24 while roughly 600 n mi (965 km) west-southwest of Cape Verde.
Danielle dissipated and became extratropical on September 3.

The 1998 hurricane season was one of the deadliest in history.
Hurricane Danielle was analyzed as Post-Tropical during the evening of September 3 and moved out of the CHC Area of Responsibility during the morning of September 4.
As Danielle passed south of Newfoundland, a maximum offshore wind speed of 85 kilometres per hour (46 knots) with a gust to 115 kilometres per hour (62 knots) was recorded at the Southwest Grand Banks buoy.

A tropical depression became Hurricane Ivan which was the first in a trio of hurricanes to form and then remain over the eastern Atlantic Ocean during the latter part of September.
Hurricane Karl was one of four hurricanes in existence over the Atlantic basin at one time.

Danielle's persistent west-northwest motion continued as it neared the western periphery of the anticyclonic subtropical ridge on August 30, where it began to slow in speed.
Danielle's track was well-forecasted by the National Hurricane Center and computer models, and the storm's recurvature was predicted in advance.
Danielle delivered minimal impact to the mainland United States, but it brought sustained tropical storm-force winds of 35 kt, along with gusts to 47 kt, to Bermuda while passing to the north of the island on September 2.

MIAMI (CNN)-- Hurricane Danielle strengthened again Thursday as it rolled across the western Atlantic Ocean and forecasters said people on the Bahamas and the U.S. east coast should keep watch on it.
Danielle was churning over the ocean as Hurricane Bonnie battered the eastern North Carolina coast.
Hurricane Danielle is the fourth name storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.

The Hurricane Center has kept it at Minimal Hurricane strength because the surrounding atmosphere is nearly perfect for intensification, with the only detrement being the fact that the center is still over land, although very close to exiting the coast of Cuba.
Hurricane Danielle is forecast to turn away from the US coast fairly soon and shouldn't be a threat to anyone on the mainland.
Danielle is a smaller system than Bonnie and has the potential to strengthen and weaken much more rapidly than Bonnie did, so this will have to be watched later in the week into next week as well.

The heat causes the air in the upper reaches of the hurricane eye to warm and expand vertically in the center of the hurricane, creating a reduction in pressure near the surface.
But if the hurricane wanders over an area of the ocean where the sea's surface has been heated and the air is humid and stagnant, the thunderclouds can grow extremely violent in a matter of hours.
Notice the high temperatures toward the upper central part of the hurricane, which are due to the latent heat being released from the water vapor being drawn upward from surface.
