Tampa, FL-based band the Outlaws released their third album, HurrySundown, in 1977, and it's a fine work marked by strong songwriting and their unique country-based brand of Southern rock.
The major discovery on HurrySundown is Jones' startling "Night Wines." This mournful, haunting song features a regret-filled protagonist drinking at night while lamenting the sad inevitability of aging.
Buddha Records (aka Buddah Records) was scheduled to issue HurrySundown on CD for the first time in the summer of 2001.
That's where they ran into producer Steve Grisham, former guitarist with the Outlaws —; which along with the Marshall Tucker Band is one of HurrySundown's biggest influences.
HurrySundown has cut a wide swath elsewhere across the nation, too, from New York to Colorado to Texas.
HurrySundown's last album, recorded in late 2002, was self-produced.
Overall, the characterisitic feel of Hurry On Sundown isn't fully developed on this version, although it's damned good considering it comes from a demo tape.
Dave gives the rhythm guitar more or less his trademark distorted sound, and there are background vocals from Alan Davey on the "Hurry on sundown" chorus.
But Version 3 is closest to being definitive, probably due to familiarity, in that it best captures the feel of Hurry On Sundown - the harmonica, the shuffling rhythm, the acoustic intro and the folky vocals.

"HurrySundown" is without a doubt the worst, most reprehensible treatment of human beings (of all race, creeds and colors) ever perpetrated by a "name" director (or any director, for that matter).
Even the fact that it was co-written by Horton Foote lends little to nothing to a story that spends all of its lengthy running time creating living, breathing stereotypes.
Avoid "HurrySundown" at all costs; do your part for civil rights.
Others, like the 1967 HurrySundown, are an astonishing 142 minutes of all meat, no filler.
Sex aside, HurrySundown exists to show how one Georgia town's poor African-Americans--sexless, upstanding, cardboard African-Americans--are morally superior to its rich, depraved whites.
A true Georgia peach, HurrySundown is a Southern-fried sex-and-depravity gem that ranks with Duel in the Sun.

It seems obvious from listening to "HurrySundown that Bob Reuter plays music because it's buried deep inside his soul.
In the early 1990's Reuter labored in relative obscurity, recording several self released cassettes but in 1995 and 1996 came successive cds, Bob Reuter - "This Much I Know" and Kamikaze Cowboy - "HurrySundown", that brought him greater recognition.
In the wake of the current alt country resurgence, Reuter is being "rediscovered" and given his due as musician and pathbreaker.
