Currie argued the application would have an adverse effect on traffic in the district, its residents and the environment and claimed defects in Transwaste's original resource consent application had led directly to the condition on truck movements having to be altered.
Currie was giving evidence before commissioner Philip Milne, who is hearing evidence on behalf of the Hurunui District Council, on a condition which the Hurunui District Council interprets as meaning only 300 heavy trucks can use the landfill in a seven-day period, travelling there and back, while Transwaste believes it means 600 heavy trucks.
Milne said he was grappling with whether or not waste volumes had anything to do with the hearing, as the condition in question was mainly aimed at ensuring some protection of amenity values for Hurunui residents and not to control the amount of rubbish being dumped.
