Topic: Hyalin

  Hyalin (L. variegatus)
Hyaline encodes a protein, which is the major constituent of the hyaline layer, an extraembryonic matrix that functions as a substrate for cell adhesion through early development.
Hyalin is a fibrillar glycoprotein of approximately 330 kDa that multimerizes in the presence of calcium.
The intracellular distribution of the hyalin message is consistent with its encoding hyalin since it is confined to the region of the rough endoplasmic reticulum around the nucleus as expected for a protein targeted to the secretory pathway.

 Juvenile Hyaline Fibromatosis
Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis (JHF) is a rare autosomal recessive disease with onset in infancy or early childhood.
Electron microscopic examination of a hyalinized skin tumor from a 19-year-old man with this syndrome revealed that the hyaline was composed of ruthenium red-positive ultrastructures (granules, filaments, and a kind of cross-banded structure), indicating the presence of glycosamino-glycan or glycoprotein, and a small number of thin collagen fibrils.
Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis is a multisystemic disorder characterized by a triad of cephalic fibrous outgrowths, gingival hyperplasia, and flexion contractures.

It has been named after the hyalin protein, which is composed exclusively of repeats of this domain.
As the HYR domains of hyalin have been shown to contain the ligand for the hyalin cell surface receptor, the HYR domain can also be expected to play a direct role in cellular adhesion in other proteins in which it is present [1].
The HYR domain share clear sequences similarities limited to the C-terminal regions with the Fn3 and PKD domains and is believed to belong to the immunoglobulin-like fold [1].
