Hyas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hyas, in Greek mythology, was a son of the Titan Atlas by Aethra (one of the Oceanids).
The mythological use of Hyas is simply to provide a male figure to consort with the archaic rain-nymphs, the Hyades, a chaperone responsible for their behavior, as all the archaic sisterhoods— even the Muses— needed to be controlled under the Olympian world-picture.
The Hyantes, descendants of Hyas— in truth of the Hyades themselves, for the fertility of rain-nymphs needs no male consort— were the original ("Pelasgian") inhabitants of Boeotia, from which country they were expelled by the followers of Cadmus.

Greek Mythology: HYAS Rain-Daimon, Constellation Aquarius ( also Hyes )
HYAS was a DAIMON (Spirit) of seasonal rains, brother of the Hyades (Starry Rain Nymphs), and a son of the firmament-bearing Titan Atlas.
The son was killed by a wild boar or a lion, and the sisters, grieving for him, died of this grief.
He sought the lair and brood of the whelped lioness and was bloody prey to the Libyan beast.

Since hyas moos-moos was the term used for buffalo, the Cree derivation seems unlikely.
Hyas puss-puss could also be conceivably used for a lynx or a bobcat, but probably in the context of a large one.
Hyas kah-kah could conceivably mean raven, although the importance of the raven in the mythology of nearly all peoples in the region suggests that the local word for raven would be preferred over a term meaning great crow.

Hyades (mythology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Additionally, Thione and Prodice, who were supposed to be daughters of Hyas by Aethra (one of the Oceanides), have been added to the group of stars.
The Greeks believed that the rising and setting of the Hyades stars were always attended with rain, hence the association of the Hyades (sisters of Hyas) and the Hyades (daughters of ocean) with the constellation of the Hyades (rainy ones) and called also 'huo pluo'/'pluvius' (the rain bringer).

Chinook Jargon - Grammar & Usage
Hyas in its sense of "big" or "very" or "very well" is usually placed at the beginning of a phrase, and can be widely separate from the word it would appear to modify in English:
Hiyu is often used in the same way, giving credence to Gibbs' claims that hyas is a corruption or variant of it, although separate meanings became established by the middle of the 19th Century.
Both hyas and hiyu, however, can be placed immediately before a modified noun, as in hyas tyee ("great chief") or hiyu tillikum(s) ("many people", a gathering).
