Hyde Park was another one of the grants to Revolutionary War veterans from Connecticut, and, like Elmore and Wolcott, Hyde Park was named for its principal grantee, Captain Jedediah Hyde.
One of their sons, Arunah Hyde, stayed in the southern part of the state and became sheriff of Castleton where the village of Hydeville derives its name from his branch of the family.
Hyde Park in England was noted as an attractive outdoor recreation spot for fashionable Londoners; Hyde Park in New York state was equally well known.

n 1880, Hyde Park had a population of 1,715, and in 1882, was divided into fifteen school districts and contained fourteen common schools, employing four male and eighteen female teachers, to whom was paid an aggregate salary of $2,020.65.
Where the village now stands, the pine plain was laid out in acre lots, in the second division, and each proprietor was entitled to one village lot, and one pine lot.
Jedediah Hyde, after whom the town was named, explored the wilderness of northern Vermont, with his son, Jedediah, Jr., in 1781, or previously, as that is the date of the town charter, and surveyed the boundaries of the township.
