Mosby's Drug Consult Top 200   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
In two long-term studies, depressed patients who had responded to citalopram hydrobromide during an initial 6 or 8 weeks of acute treatment (fixed doses of 20 or 40 mg/day in one study and flexible doses of 20-60 mg/day in the second study) were randomized to continuation of citalopram hydrobromide or to placebo.
The potential relationship between the dose of citalopram hydrobromide administered and the incidence of adverse events was examined in a fixed dose study in depressed patients receiving placebo or citalopram hydrobromide 10, 20, 40, and 60 mg.
Citalopram hydrobromide and placebo groups were compared with respect to (1) mean change from baseline in various serum chemistry, hematology, and urinalysis variables and (2) the incidence of patients meeting criteria for potentially clinically significant changes from baseline in these variables.

 Data Sheet
Hyoscine hydrobromide is also contraindicated in patients with pyloric obstruction, paralytic ileus, and in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or urinary bladder neck obstruction, since it may lead to urinary retention in these patients.
Hyoscine hydrobromide should be administered with caution in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, and in patients with cardiac disease, since the transient increase in heart rate which may be caused by hyoscine hydrobromide may be undesirable in these circumstances.
Administration of cholinergics including hyoscine hydrobromide is not recommended in the 24 hours prior to the test since anticholinergics may antagonize the effects of the drugs used in the evaluation of gastric acid secretory function.

The effect of citalopram hydrobromide on 5-HT(2A) receptors in the impulsive-aggressive dog, as measured with (123)I-5-I-R91150 SPECT.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of citalopram hydrobromide (a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) on the 5-HT(2A) receptor and brain perfusion in impulsive-aggressive dogs by means of single-photon emission computed tomography.
The 5-HT(2A) receptor binding index was significantly reduced after citalopram hydrobromide treatment in all cortical regions but not in the subcortical area.

This result is achieved by nucleophilic displacement reactions of 2,4-diamino-6-(bromomethyl)pteridine hydrobromide (I) with amino, hydroxyl, and sulfhydryl functions of amines (aromatic and aliphatic), phenols, and thiophenol under appropriate accessary conditions.
Pure 2,4-diamino-6-methylpteridine hydrobromide was isolated from an ethanolic filtrate and identified as the 6-methyl isomer by comparisons of its uv-absorption spectra with those of an authentic sample, but no clear evidence was obtained that proved the presence of the 7-methyl isomer.
A suspension of the hydrobromide (339 mg) in H.sub.2 O (30 ml) containing 1 N NaOH (1.80 ml) was stirred for 3 hrs.

For this three-year analysis, Alzheimer’s disease patients, who were involved in one of two earlier double-blind trials comparing galantamine hydrobromide to placebo, were asked if they would like to participate in further research.
The investigators, led by Murray Raskind, MD, director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the department of Veteran’s Affairs, Puget Sound Healthcare System, in Tacoma, Washington, assessed the cognition of the participants at 12, 24, and 36 months and compared it to expected rates of cognitive decline in untreated patients.
The investigators estimate that galantamine hydrobromide delays progression of Alzheimer’s disease by approximately 18 months.
