Hydrogeology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the basic principles of hydrogeology are very intuitive (e.g., water flows "downhill"), the study of their interaction can be quite complex.
Traditionally, the movement of groundwater has been studied separately from surface water, climatology, and even the chemical and microbiological aspects of hydrogeology (the processes are uncoupled).
As the field of hydrogeology matures, the strong interactions between groundwater, surface water, water chemistry, soil moisture and even climate are becoming more clear.

 Environmental Hydrogeology
Hydrogeology, as the name suggests, used to deal with the geologic aspects of water (even including surface water).
Thus, often models of contaminant hydrogeology have to include a mix of processes such as advection, dispersion, adsorption, dissolution, volatilization and biodegradation in highly complex porous media (with heterogeneities, fracture systems, or micro layers).
As a result, contaminant hydrogeology has become a highly multi-disciplinary research area where exchange of expertise with geochemists, soil biologists, soil physicists, microbiologists, petroleum engineers, mathematicians, and geophysicists is needed.

Hydrogeology   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Hydrogeology is a branch of geology, the study of rocks and the structures that are formed over vast periods of time.
The way that sediments have been deposited to create different layers of rock beneath the surface, or the way that rocks have been heated and folded over millions of years to create complex structures are the subjects of geology.
Without the knowledge that hydrogeology gives us we have no way of predicting what will happen to our water resources or the future effects on the environment of water extraction.
