HyperCard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HyperCard was originally released with System Software 6 in 1987, and was finally withdrawn from sale in March 2004, although it had not been updated for many years at that time.
HyperCard was created by Bill Atkinson and initially released in August 1987, with the understanding that Atkinson would give HyperCard to Apple only if they promised to release it for free on all Macs.
HyperCard is one of the first products that made use of and popularized the hypertext concept to a large popular base of users.

MacDevCenter.com -- REALbasic for HyperCard Users
HyperCard allowed you simply to draw your program's interface, and then associate interface items with code responding to related user actions -- for example, in the case of a button, what should happen when the user pressed it.
HyperCard's card/background metaphor supports a light database where storage, display, and searching come more or less free; in REALbasic, you have to work quite hard to achieve the same effect.
The very artificiality of HyperCard's interface allows the programmer to obtain information about it and control over it to an extent that in REALbasic is not so easily obtained.

 HyperCard FAQ 2
Looking at HyperCard in terms of database terminology, a stack would be a database file, a card would be a single record, and each card can have fields to store individual pieces of information.
HyperCard stacks are slow as far as applications go, and the program doesn't support color easily (and if you use color, it slows down even more).
