Ten days before the Melbourne Cup, Hyperno was to run in the Moonee Valley Cup, with Higgins up, as his final hit-out for the big one.
North, later Lady North, I had a lovely scoop—White definitely on Hyperno, with Higgins confirmed for Salamander while the wily Bart was to use blinkers on his stayer, no doubt knowing the gelding needed the change of gear to put his mind back on his business, of being a racehorse.
Hyperno nosed out Salamander in a bob of the heads finish, no-one certain which horse had won until the number shot onto the board.
