About Hypnosis, What is it? how does it work?
A hypnotic session does is to create this state, deepen it and use the phoemenon available (while in hypnosis) to bring about the desired changes through either straight suggestion or actual therapy.
Hypnotic literature's most widely disputed issue is whether hypnosis is either 'an altered state of consciousness' or a combination of common conscious psychological functioning processes.
Although the non state theorists dispute the creation of a unique state (via the hypnotic induction) they do not dispute the subjective reality or the experience of subjects who claim to be hypnotized; or believe that responses are faked or the result of compliance.

Hypnotic susceptibility levels remained stable in the high-susceptible group, and increased moderately in the low and medium susceptible groups.
This dissociation of consciousness is clearly manifested in the realm of hypnotically induced analgesia.
All the while that she was insisting verbally that she felt no pain in hypnotic analgesia, the dissociated part of herself was reporting through automatic writing that she felt the pain just as in the normal nonhypnotic state.

Hypnosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to its authors, "the fMRI data revealed that conflict-related ACC activity interacted with hypnosis and hypnotic susceptibility, in that highly susceptible participants displayed increased conflict-related neural activity in the hypnosis condition compared to baseline, as well as with respect to subjects with low susceptibility." (Egner et al., 2005).
It is rarely used for the more complex or controversial uses of hypnotism, which require the hypnotist to monitor the hypnotized person's reactions and responses and respond accordingly.
One of the major initial applications of hypnotism was the suppression of pain during medical procedures; this was supplanted (in the late 19th century) by the development of more reliable chemical anesthetics.

Mechanisms of Pain Reduction in Hypnotic Analgesia
The amount of the hypnotic "dose" is dependant upon two factors: the hypnotic technique used, and the degree to which hypnosis affects the individual (Gracely, 1995).
If the hypnotic group had vocabulary scores similar to the stress group but less than the control group, then it could be deduced that both methods of analgesic suggestion involved similar mechanisms.
Hypnotic analgesia is a powerful tool having the ability to relieve pain even in such severe cases as surgery, child birth, and in the treatment of cancer patients (Bonica, 1980).

Creating False Memories of Infancy with Hypnotic and Non-hypnotic Procedures
Since both groups were given extensive rationales concerning why their regression procedure was likely to facilitate retrieval of such memories from an authoritative source, they hypothesized that these groups would report false memories to a similar degree.
They were informed that this insightful, intuitive cognitive style was largely determined by "practice at coordinated eye movements and visual exploration that occurred during a critical period during the first few days after birth." They were also told that they were probably born in hospitals that hung colored mobiles over their cribs shortly after birth.
Hypnotic regression treatment: they were told that the purpose of the procedure was to confirm that they had been born in hospitals that hung mobiles over their cribs.

Quality Matters (Use of Hypnotic Medications)
In uncomplicated insomnia, hypnotics serve as an adjunct short-term therapy to non-pharmacological interventions.[13,19] In residents experiencing disturbed sleep despite good sleep hygiene, treatment with hypnotic medications may be considered.
Non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (zolpidem and zaleplon) are short acting and are as effective as benzodiazepines.[4] They are associated with fewer side effects and less withdrawal problems.[13] They appear to have a lower risk of falls, daytime sedation, tolerance, rebound, and respiratory depression than has been observed with benzodiazepine hypnotics.
Hypnotic dosage reduction can be attempted three times in six months unless this proves clearly harmful.[13] In long-term users, doses should be reduced gradually.

Post Hypnotic Suggestion - Hypnosis - Hypnotherapy - Hypnotic Advancements
A post hypnotic suggestion and a conditioned reflex serve a similar purpose except that the former is not established by repetitive trial and learning in the classic sense.
If the setting in which the post hypnotic suggestion occurs is altered, or if the expectant attitudes change between the time of the post hypnotic suggestion, and the time when it is about to be carried out, then deeply hypnotized persons can cancel even the original hypnotic suggestion.
To a slight degree, the disappearance of the trance state, or to a much greater degree the completion of the post hypnotic performance, is marked by a brief interval of confusion and disorientation from which the subject quickly recovers by renewed and close attention to the immediate situation.

Yet as you progress through this extensive study, you realise the true hypnotic power of a key component of communication; language, and, more poignantly, that using language inherently involves moving from an objective to a subjective state an essential, trance-entering action.
What Burton and Bodenhamer set out to demonstrate is exactly how the structure of hypnotic language invokes the more sophisticated capacities of the cortex, as they identify the very cognitive dimensions that allow hypnotic language to be effective, and those principles of perception that cause the perceiver to automatically enter a state of trance.
