Topic: Hypnotize (song)

System's 'Hypnotize' is mesmerizing disorder - The Boston Globe
''Hypnotize" is the more epic of the two, with all the rococo theatricality of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman in peak ''Bat Out of Hell" form.
It's a battering ram of a song with just enough tempo changes for everyone to catch their breath.
Despite the success of such songs as ''Chop Suey!" and ''B.Y.O.B," this band has never thought in terms of radio-friendly hits, and with albums this staggeringly good, there's no need.

The song overall is heavy and a good way to start the album but overall not a highlight of the album with a repetitive chorus.
This song may be called a filler, but I think it is one of the more interesting songs on the album with Serj's weird lyrics working brilliantly.
This song is definitely one of the most emotional songs that SOAD have written and is one of the best listens on Hypnotize and a great way the end the album.

Those songs were fairly typical, almost mainstream rock that was sure enjoyable, but not the System of a Down we know and love.
The only single on Hypnotize was not only the title track, but it seemed to just be a discourse on various topics which generally led to the government somehow, which was sort of what Mezmerize did for the entire album.
This song follows the trend set by Mezmerize, putting the random song and the sex-related song one after another (on Mezmerize, it was This Cocaine...

Cigaro is a wonderfully heavy, wonderfully funny mess of a song, Lost In Hollywood a soulful, bile filled ballad against Hollywood and BYOB is simply one of modern rocks true greats.
Having read some of the reviews of their new album Hypnotize (of which I haven't heard yet but will when I receive my copy from Amazon) I was staggered to read some people's opinions that not only Hypnotize but also Mesmerize was inferior to the bands early work.
The songs have good meaning and messages, they are intelligent guys, but musically, to listen to, they arent really as great as they are made out to be.

Hypnotize is saying how the government doesn't care what you think, you have to obey.
Also, this song talks about how the government tries to brainwash you and to leave you blinded so that they can go about their evil works.
I think that this song is about the American people neglecting to stand up against the American government ruling the country by blinding and brainwashing its population with 'propaganda' to cover all its fraud.

It drives the boiling rage in Hypnotize's "Attack," "Stealing Society," and "U-Fig"; on "Holy Mountain," it inspires SOAD to transform the sad facts of genocide into the album's most vicious, powerful, and arresting moment.
Hypnotize is a pretty decent album, but it falls short of their other work.
Hypnotize is a decent album as a whole, but the band should have combined the good material on Mezmerize with the good on this disc rather than seperating the two.

Hypnotize is good, but not as ground breaking as Mezmerize, IMO.
I've listened through the album, only because that song is the last, and ever since (last 36 hrs) I've been listening to it.
Hypnotize is a cool song, so hopefully I'll enjoy the rest of the album as much as I have their other albums.

This song is surprisingly short on heavy guitar sounds, especially for a song called "Kill Rock 'n' Roll", but it's not a bad thing, as this song features probably some of the best vocal work SOAD's ever done.
The title track and first single from Hypnotize, this song is slow, almost power-ballad-ish, as it opens with another acoustic intro, starting with Serj singing a couple of lines, and for pretty much the rest of the song, Serj and Daron trade verses and vocal lines.
This song is very good in that it has a very eerie quality about it; this is probably due to Serj's use of a voice distorter in some parts of the song.

Hypnotize isn't as good as most (or all) of the SoaD hit singles, but it's definitely a hit in any case.
Well, the way this song started didn't really appeal to me. And once this song is over I must say Stealing Society is probably the most faceless song of Hypnotize, it just goes in from one ear and out from another.
Hypnotize is the weaker half of the album, having only a few good songs, rest being simple songs which seem to be quickly written filler tracks to fill the empty space between the good ones.

All the songs on this album are pretty dull, and the tile track is definately the head aove the rest in the race, I was really disappointed on hearing this album as I really expected better, for die-hard System fans only, else you will most probably be sadly disappointed.
The final song, Soldier Side, connects at the end with the start of Mesmerise, and thus could proven a good note to finish on, however the song is quite boring and the album fades out rather than ending with a bang like Aerials or Streamline.
The rest is a bland collection of songs that could have been written by any half-decent rock band, rather than one of the finest, weirdest quartets on the metal scene.

The sound quality of Hypnotize is almost identical to Mezmerize, as the majority of these songs were recorded at the same time.
The song then breaks down into a smoother and more melodic chorus, but always has that spastic underlying tone that was set up by the song’s intro.

Compared to Mezmerize, Hypnotize is certainly a bit more melancholy and less wacky overall, with many more serious moments amidst the madness.

 SPIN.com: System of a Down Hypnotize (American/Columbia)
Hypnotize is part two of the split opus they began earlier this year with Mezmerize, joining Conor Oberst and Kate Bush in the revival of that '70s art-rock archetype, the double LP.
And "Vicinity of Obscenity," which resembles a Russian drinking song and rhymes "beat the meat" with "treat the feet" between shouts of "terra-cotta pie, hey!" is funnier gibberish metal than Mezmerize's "This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song." Hypnotize is also a more explicitly political record, which is no mean feat.
It's a love song, albeit one that seems to be about suicidal drives -- either the singer's or his lover's -- with vocals from tunesmith Daron Malakian, whose fragile voice is now officially outperforming, or at least out-emoting, that of lead singer Serj Tankian, much like Pete Townshend's did Roger Daltrey's in the Who.

System of a Down - Mezmerize/Hypnotize (Columbia) - MusicRemedy.com, Brings Music to Life
Disc Two ("Hypnotize") is expected to see a late fall release.
Some of the song titles are "Radio Video," "Old School Hollywood," "Cigaro," "Lost in Hollywood," "Question," "Vicinity of Obscenity" and "Revenga." The decision to release the two discs six months apart was made simply to give fans time to get into and really live with the music from Disc One before plunging into Disc Two.
"Mezmerize /Hypnotize" will be the follow-up to the nearly six-million-selling "Toxicity" which was released in September 2001 and debuted in the Number One position on the Billboard/Soundscan charts.

Where that album toyed with a more tempered and simplistic formula, Hypnotize is a lethal dose of aggression and mayhem filtered through a refreshing maturity in the songwriting department.
The title track was the perfect choice for single, and it was the first song to grow on me. In many ways it is the oldest-sounding song and could have been a track off of the self-titled if it were not for Daron's lead vocalizing.
"Hypnotize," the second half of System of a Down's 2005 opus, is clearly a continuation of their first album, "Mezmerize" (which was released earlier in 2005).

Combs was a man who left nothing to chance, and the success of “Hypnotize” was no accident.
With the hook, adapted from Slick Rick’s “La Di Da Di,” in place, all “Hypnotize” needed was the verses.

A song that (when first listened too) won’t sink in until the first chorus is over.
This is the mood, and the darkness that that is “Hypnotize”.
Despite the album having some really great songs however, I’ve noticed after a few listens I begin to skip over “Auf Achse” and at times “This Fire.” It’s not that they are shoddy tracks, it’s just that they get old really fast, in my opinion.

“The song ‘Hypnotize,’ Malakian says, was inspired by his frustration with those who would rather blindly follow their leaders than think for themselves, as well as the propaganda-spouting pundits who reinforce their behavior.” - Revolver
According to those who went to the London prelistening, the song starts with the sound of bombs falling (like those at the end of the intro) and ends with the lyrics from the intro being repeated to heavier guitars.
According to Shavo, "Hezze" was originally the opening track for Hypnotize, but the band decided to released it seperately on an EP or single.

There are plenty of "slow" songs; it's not until you listen to Mezmerize again afterwards that you notice the speed of Hypnotize.
The song, however, is a perfect representation of the overall feel of Hypnotize.
A lot of you say you like the "Terracotta Pie" song, which is funny, because you say these are the best SOAD albums yet--but that song is the MOST like the tracks on their older albums.
