Hypocoliidae (Hypocolius) breed in open woodlands and orchards of Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Hypocoliidae are grey, medium-sized, shrike-like birds (24 cm), with long tail having fl subterminal band and white-tipped fl wings.
The closest relative of Hypocoliidae family, consisting of just a single specie (Gray Hypocolius), are Bombycillidae and Pycnonotidae.

The Grey Hypocolius (Hypocolius ampelinus) is a small passerine bird species.
It is the sole member of the genus Hypocolius and family Hypocoliidae.
It ranges through the Middle East, breeding in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and wintering mostly near the Red Sea and Persian Gulf coasts of Arabia.
