Hypocrisy - Biography - AOL Music
The Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy was formed by Peter Tägtgren in 1990 upon his return to Sweden from Florida, where he had been inspired by that state's flourishing death metal scene (bands like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, and Obituary).
Hypocrisy's first demo was recorded entirely by Tägtgren himself; once it secured him a record deal, he recruited a lineup of Masse Broberg (vocals), Jonas Österberg (guitar), Mikael Hedlund (bass), and Lars Szöke (drums), while he himself settled on guitar.
Hypocrisy officially disbanded following the release of The Final Chapter; however, fan interest persuaded Tägtgren to reconsider the breakup, and a live album, Hypocrisy Destroys Wacken 1998, was released in early 1999 as a precursor of things to come.

In my estimation, Hypocrisy is one of the most interesting bands in metal.
Just as main Hypocrisy man Peter Tagtgren was becoming a stellar metal force via his production methods and his famed Abyss studios (temporary home to Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Susperia and countless others), Peter put Hypocrisy back together and shut the doors of his main revenue source (Abyss, naturally).
Peter has gone to great lengths to stress that Hypocrisy is a band, and not just a vehicle for his ideas.

Review: On this album Hypocrisy slow from their trademark style of fast and feral Slayer-influenced Swedish death metal, dropping into its place refinement and simple elegance in the embrace of the classic speed metal/heavy metal that is at the core of this band (undoubtedly from youthful influences).
As if making peace with the past, the band are not attempted savage death metal but aiming for a more conventional audience through powerful pop song compositing and the enlightening inventiveness of melody that has been the trademark of previous albums.
With this in mind, a summary of this album might be that the band who started small have now become fully in control of their artistry, and at that stage have reverted to their influences for the sake of making socially acceptable music.

So Hypocrisy grinds on (work = life), and fortunately, flip comments about the upcoming album have not borne fruit, except maybe the mumblings about a slight elevation in hi-tech-ness.
But really, Catch 22 is a pretty conventional Hypocrisy album featuring huge, stressful guitar sounds, trebly snare and cymbals (and bass drum, for that matter), and vocals that are usually pickled in a sea of electric currents.
The band's melodies are a blast, sort of In Flames in flames, and these can be heard in the increased number of gut-churning mid-paced tracks, "Hatred" and "Destroyed" being particularly punk-drunk and turgidly Entombed, "Seeds of the Chosen One" swaggering like Kiss' "War Machine," until chorus time when it sounds like Lillian Axe.
