The Hyrum Feeder Canal extends north for about 1.3 miles and discharges into a lateral of the Hyrum Irrigation Co. The 14 mile long Hyrum-Mendon Canal crosses the Little Bear River Flood Plain in an inverted siphon and delivers water to lands on the southwest side of Cache Valley.
The maximum water surface elevation of this reservoir is 4,672.0 feet (top of the spillway radial gates).  The dam is located near the southwest corner of Hyrum City and creates a reservoir with a total capacity of 18,685 acre-feet, and a surface area of 480 acres.
Hyrum Dike, a rolled earthfill structure, has a crest length of about 900 feet, a crest elevation of 4,683 feet, and a structural height of 15 feet.

Hyrum was born to Joseph Smith, Sr., and Lucy Mack Smith on February 9, 1800, in Tunbridge, Vermont.
Hyrum, who was already recognized for his tender and compassionate nature, became young Joseph's nurse, developing an enduring bond between the brothers.

Thus died Joseph Smith, the Prophet, one of the most remarkable men of his time, and Hyrum Smith, the Patriarch, a great and good man. Joseph's family was left surrounded by a hostile foe; and in consequence of their resistance to usurpation and corruption, their former friends became their most bitter enemies.
Hyrum's family accompanied the Utah faction, and some of his sons have been and are prominently connected with that body.
