The Elantra's interior didn't have the trendy, perfectly-integrated look and feel of the class leaders, but it was far better than most economy cars, and especially impressive given the Elantra's low price tag.

Hyundai Elantra Elite | Roadtests | The Australian
Hyundai's upgraded Elantra aims to sell on its merits rather than its price – and to some extent succeeds, writes Terry Martin.
Rather than slashing dollars, adding value is Hyundai's latest creed and it is now set to increase sales 33 per cent overall in 2004 and, before long, return to "Excel era" levels of 60,000 a year.
Right now, Elantra seems more like a transition than a solution, although the car, like the brand as a whole, is heading in the right direction – and doesn't look like it's about to abscond.

Hyundai Elantra – First Drive: In a previous position at a different publication where long-term cars were company-owned and not donated by the automakers' public relations departments, I vetoed a staff decision to lease a Volvo S60 instead of a Hyundai Elantra.
However, Hyundai had just launched a redesigned Elantra with a terrific powertrain warranty, and it was my duty to keep the team and the content we produced sharply focused on the consumers who trusted us to tell them what cars to buy instead of what would make us look good rolling down Wilshire Avenue.

There was a moment, once I had started nosing into the left lane and was waiting for a bit of power to accompany the noise, that I had my doubts, and I kept glancing nervously in the mirror to see if I was about to become grill kill on the Lincoln.
