Isaac Asimov's Robot Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most of Asimov's robot short stories are set in the first age of positronic robotics and space exploration.
Some of the short stories found in The Complete Robot and other anthologies are clearly not set in the same universe as most of them (the Foundation Universe), even though they feature positronic robots obeying the Three Laws.

Robot Stories - Greg Pak Interview
The robot toys in the second story are representations of such strictly defined robots, and they fly in a dream sequence, so we get away with that one.
The android office workers in the third story are also robots according to my definition -- they may look organic, like the flesh-and-blood replicants of "Bladerunner," but I imagine them as constructed of chips and silicone and plastic and metal, and they're powered by the same G9 processor as the robot baby.
World Robot Declaration was published in Japan, stating that robots should be partners of humans who coexist with them and assist them in developing a safe and peaceful society.

One of his greatest acomplishments is that, toward the end of his life, he managed to tie together almost all of his novels and many of his short stories into a fairly consistent and comprehensive library of future-history.
Over the course of his career he mastered the novel, the short story, and the short-short story.
Robots Daneel Olivaw and Giskard - under a veil of secrecy - have meanwhile embarked on a quest of enormous magnitude in hopes of ensuring mankind's future.

Roger Clarke's Asimov's Laws of Robotics
Asimov investigated this in an early short story and later in a novel: A mind-reading robot interprets the first law as requiring him to give people not the correct answers to their questions but the answers that he knows they want to hear 14,16,17.
A deadlock problem was the key feature of the short story in which Asimov first introduced the laws.

"The Robot Fixer", the best of the segments, tells the story of an estranged mother (Wai Ching Ho) who hopes to connect with her hopelessly comatose son by repairing his childhood collection of toy "Microbots".
Writer/director Greg Pak uses robots to tackle the big issues of life - love, death, family - in Robot Stories, a collection of four short tales that's currently making the film festival circuit.
In "My Robot Baby", Marcia (Tamlyn Tomita) and Roy (James Saito) hope to adopt a child, but first they must prove their dedication and competency by caring for a pink, egg-shaped "baby" that acts very much like a real infant.

 SF REVIEWS.NET: I, Robot / Isaac Asimov
(Bits of this story were later lampooned by Poul Anderson in the short story "The Critique of Impure Reason.")
One robot refuses to believe it was built by "inferior" humans, and develops a religious mania, worshipping the station itself and claiming to be the station's "prophet." Another robot on the surface of Mercury finds itself facing a conflict between laws, and ends up malfunctioning so that it seems literally drunk.
Briefly, the laws prevent robots from harming people in any way; require robots to obey people unless they are ordered to harm someone; and oblige robots to protect their own existence unless they risk harming people by doing so.

Amazon.com: Books: Robot Dreams (Remembering Tomorrow)
Robot Dreams collects 21 of Isaac Asimov's short stories spanning the body of his fiction from the 1940s to the 1980s----exploring not only the future of technology, but the future of humanity's maturity and growth.
A lot of the story's worked in a similar world, with repeating concepts and rules; the first rule of robotics is for a robot to not harm its maker, human.
They are the first two, and the first one is also a story from _I, Robot_ (which I just re-read).

The old sculptor of the story struggles with his obligation to "scan" his brain for the sake of future generations having access to his knowledge or the dignity of a natural death.
These short stories provide an introspective perspective on what the future might hold in regards to the development of humans, human interaction, and artificial support to human intellect and collective wisdom.
Ultimately, Robot Stories offers an intelligent take on what the future might hold, as it is depicted in a natural order from birth to death.

 UGO's ROBOT WEEK
We were all here early, but I was in robot school as we honed a system for moving and how it processed through my character...
After an all-to-brief tour of just one of the many sets constructed for I, Robot, UGO interviewed several of the cast and crew, including actor and executive producer Will Smith, along with co-stars Bridget Moynahan and Alan Tudyk, decked out in a green body suit that only a visual FX team could love.
I wasn't familiar with the short stories, then.

Comic Book Resources Forums - I, Robot- how bad will it be? and a prediction.
Though, I remember reading a book with a series of short stories, starting with one about a girl and her robot, which her mother tries to get rid of because of worry about it hurting the girl despite the three robot laws.
I thought it really worked as an Asimov story, in that those stories go by the principle that the Three Laws are built on the basis of logic, but humans, who the robots must obey, are not logical.

 Robot Stories - Movie Review
In "The Robot Fixer," Wilson is in a coma after a car wreck, prompting his mother (Wai Ching Ho) to fix his toy robots.
Can you believe Greg Pak "borrowed" the whole concept of this story from the Batman Beyond episode titled "The Egg Baby?" He should have known that only dorks like me would watch his movie and since dorks like me are in fact dorks, the egg baby story would be instantly recognizable to his audience.
This was a story about an old man, an artist, who lived in a futuristic society where people download their minds into computers before they die.

Amazon.co.uk: Books: The Complete Robot (Robot Series)
Isaac Asimov is the master of the short story, revealing a whole new world in a paragraph.
His robot stories are brilliant feats of imagination, and his Laws of Robotics have had a profound influence on the real world of Artificial Intelligence research.
Although a friend had told me that the robot stories were 'quite hard going', I found them to be most enjoyable and very thought-provoking.

I, Robot short story collection (whose cover now bears a shot of Will Smith from the movie, at least on the Amazon Web site) when I was in 6th grade.
Bicentennial Man (a decent, but not great, adaptation of an Asimov robot story) or read the original
Robots Run Amok would have been a better title, and one that would have minimized my disappointment in the film, whose premise is that robots were able to overcome the Three Laws because they rationalized their way around them.

 john wyles :: Robot Stories
The next story entitled “ The Robot Fixer ” was a drama that dealt with a boy who was on life support and his mothers growing acceptance of the situation.
This story was out of place among the four stories in that it did not deal with the future or robots.
Anyhow, it is a series of four short films dealing with humans and their interactions with robots and technology in a humorous and sometimes dramatic way.

 IGN: A.I. Artificial Intelligence Review
Like Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sentinel," the short story on which 2001: A Space Odyssey was based, the Aldiss story is little more than a vignette — in this case, the tale of a little boy, unaware that he is a robot, who desperately wants his (human) “mother” to love him.
He worked extensively on it, with science fiction writers Brian Aldiss (on whose 1969 short story, "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long," the film is based) and Ian Watson (who retains a "Screen Story" credit on the picture for his work in fleshing out an extended treatment with Kubrick).
The story is basically this: David (Haley Joel Osment, who's really amazing in a near-impossible role) is a robot child.
