  01/63 The Creative
Hexagram 01 is both excessive but also inspirational in that filled with energy, the need for balance is achieved through continuous interaction with the outside, where each sensation is an energy release.
Within the octet hexagram 01 is paired with its complement, hexagram 11 where the action of 01 is tempered to being more biased to potentials; the tempering acts to contain the everflowing yang.
To 'go with the flow', any hexagram that is changing into hexagram 01 reflects an influence of 01 on that hexagram in that the 'flow' is in hexagram 01 and as such this reflects the need to adapt to that flow and so take-on the properties and methods of 01.

 01/63 page 2
In this sequence hexagram 01, the singlemindedness, exaggerations-prone nature of yangness, 'opposes' hexagram 11, the focus on maintaining balance and harmony and as such the hard core, sharp distinction of, differentiation nature of 01 is reflected in a more balanced format by the integration nature of 11.
Hexagram 43, in its rawest form of expression, reflects a sense of being 'pushy', as is required when one is focused on 'spreading the word'.
Here the 'rigidity' of yangness, as expressed in hexagram 01, is 'softened' at a general level to be reflected in the focus of hexagram 44 on seducation and so the need for persuation to achieve one's goal.

 I Ching Basics part II (T'ai Chi & yin/yang)
The method of hexagram generation for both systems is the same, starting with the leftmost trigram as a base trigram and building up eight sets of eight hexagrams.
The I Ching in it's common form of hexagrams, hexagram names, judgement text, image text (a wing), and line change text (a wing), was in use circa 600BCE.
In hexagram 01, The Creative, changing the lines at position 2 and 5 from yang into yin and then interchanging the trigrams (although in this example, both trigrams are the same), the resulting hexagram of influence is hexagram 30, The Clinging.

When a hexagram is cast using one of the processes of divination with I Ching, each of the lines may be indicated as moving or fixed.
This was concomitant with the reassessment of Confucianism by Confucians in the light of Taoist and Buddhist metaphysics, and is known in the West as Neo-Confucianism.
The binary arrangement of hexagrams was developed by the famous Chinese scholar and philosopher Shao Yung (a neo-Confucian and Taoist) in the 11th century.

I Ching Plus : I Ching Affirmations (IDM focus)
The method used to put one into a particular 'part' is to select from a basic set of perspectives where the sum of the selection elicits a general filter, in the I Ching a hexagram, through which one engages the everyday of the species.
For example, if the given filter is that of hexagram 01 then the process of engagement consists of an attitude of singlemindedness, perseverence, total faith in one-self, a sense of being competitive with an aim to improve one's skills in dealing with others etc, as one goes about one's everyday tasks.
This will elicit a particular hexagram of the I Ching which is to be your 'totem' for the day/week/month/life - your choice ;-) For the period of choice, consciously FILTER all input and all output through the particular hexagram.

Hypergraph Experiment with I Ching: hexagram transformation lines (1-3 + 7-8) applied to sustainable development
I Ching: Rather than denote the hexagram conditions by lines in the applet, these have been converted into a binary code, namely a solid line is treated as a 1 and a broken line as a 0.
In the I Ching hexagram of 6 lines, a "moving line" is traditionally understood to occur where a solid line shifts to a broken line (or vice versa) -- thus transforming one of the 64 hexagram conditions into another.
Tao te Ching: In the ongoing experiments with the 81 conditions of the Tao te Ching, the approach taken has been to assume that these could be described by an octagram composed of 8 horizontal lines (rather than a hexagram composed of 6).

Five Phase I Ching : Hexagram Pairs
Of interest in the dynamics of hexagrams, an interesting pattern in the Changing-Line Matrix, is a relationship of PAIRS of hexagrams where there is a sense of direction, FROM A to B in the pairs.
By this I mean that hexagram 51 is energy expending, concentrated, and as such 57 reflects a DAMPENING focus, a focus on 'diffuse' use of energy (as in 'Wind') compared to the intense, precise use of energy (as in 'Thunder').
55 - this hexagram deals with diversity, with so much excess that 'core' concepts become 'hidden' behind all of the diversity of expressions and a degree of 'control' is required.

 The Cardinal I Ching
We now take this refinement process and generalise it to hexagrams in the form of doubling, thus hexagram 01 is doubled to a 12 line symbol that qualitatively is an improvement on hex 01 as hex 01 is an improvement of the trigram Heaven.
The example used so far has been in hexagram 01 where 01 expresses the REFINED format of yangness and the quality string within 01 has 28 as the opposite pole, the other end of the string, where 28 is used to describe by analogy the more 'gross' quality of too much yangness, excessive.
Hexagram 01, father, has base line analogy to hexagram 28 where the emphasis is on too much yang, excess.

 The Eranos Foundation
Since Jung contributed to Wilhelm's I Ching, and the book is often used in analysis, the Foundation set-up an I Ching study group from which emerged a new translation of the I Ching.
For example, hexagram 01 is named Ch'ien, which Wilhelm translates as "The Creative", and in the more 'popular' books this is given a highly positive meaning.
In this we see the 'excessive' character of this hexagram - an extreme bias to 'yang-ness' to the extent that it is unbalanced.

Identifying the 'clay' of hexagram meanings - I Ching Community
With all of this in mind, we can in fact go through each hexagram of the I Ching and identify a PAIR of hexagrams that serve, by analogy, to identify the raw elements, and so the base quality, that go towards making the refined expression of that hexagram.
I have ordered the hexagrams in their traditional numbering, but note that the methodology was derived from working on the binary sequence of the hexagrams (as shown in act of recursion diagram that gives us an ordering of yin/yang, or 0/1, into a 64-symbol sequence from 000000 to 111111).
hexagram 01 :- the mould is made-up of under-exaggerated qualities of hexagram 43 - robustness, seeding, 'being pushy', and the basic quality of hexagram 28 - excess (too much yang etc).

These relationships have been uncovered through an analysis on how the I Ching was created and how the I Ching reflects properties of our brain in its attempts to derive meaning where the method of derivation of hexagrams automatically associates hexagrams into pairs (2), quartets (4), and octets (8).
This relationship of differentiation/integration is reflected across the whole sequence, in the local relation of 01 to 43 and in the global relation of 01 to 02.
Below are given the links to pages of all 64 hexagrams with their names, general comments on trigram make-up, and the detailed comments on relationships of hexagram pairs as cooperative and competitive (opposite) forms in the expression of meaning.
