I Fought the Law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"I Fought the Law" is a much-covered song originally recorded by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets.
The song is more identified in the eyes (and ears) of many music fans with the Bobby Fuller Four, who recorded a more successful version of the song in 1965, and with The Clash, who recorded a punk rock version in 1978.
The Dead Kennedys, in particular, wrote and recorded a different version as a comment on Dan White's 1978 murder of San Francisco mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk, and White's subsequent use of the "Twinkie Defense" to influence the court to convict him of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Sarah Holterhoff: I Fought the Law and the Law Won
March 18, 1997—The Bobby Fuller Four weren't singing about Valparaiso University Law Library in their 1966 hit recording, "I Fought the Law," but their lyric seems to capture what is happening here on a certain Tuesday in March 1997.
With the students and faculty back after spring break and mild weather bringing out more than the usual number of pro se patrons, the library staff in general (and this government documents librarian in particular) are doing a land-office business in legal reference questions.
(As the only law library in northwest Indiana, we get lots of public library questions.) His patron is concerned about something she believes she heard on a recent visit to the Voting Rights Museum in Selma, Alabama: that the Fifteenth Amendment is due to "expire" soon.

Tampabay: If Bush fought the law, who would win?
The main reason was that the judiciary, not the Legislature, has the sole power under the Constitution to write the rules of procedure for handling cases.
Bush's lawyers accused the court of ignoring the deadlines set in state law in many cases, and its own timetable of rules in other cases.
It is true that the courts should decide cases based only on what the law and the Constitution say.

In sixties and seventies most remarkable covers of this song were the Roy Orbison verison (with fl ladies singing in the background) and later, Sonny Curtis came back to it and made a good version during his solo days.
Their powerful, lenghty version of I Fought The Law is one of the forgotten jewels of rock.
Other ruther interesting versions of I Fought The Law, although not quite as popular, were the versions by multi-national French neo-punk outfit Mano Negra, and by the Los Angeles cult band Mary's Danish with their female duet at the foreground and wall of noisy guitars in the back.

The song’s well-known refrain is: “I fought the law, and the law won.” What brings this tune to mind is the Bush Administration’s fight to use military commissions to try (and convict) enemy combatants without benefit of due process or the protections afforded by the Geneva Convention.
I partially concede your point, Mike, although it is not just U.S. law that the Bush Administration has to worry about but also international law, specifically the Geneva Convention, which the Supreme Court cited in their decision on Hamdan v.
With regard to U.S. law, it is not entirely clear if the draft proposal currently before the Senate adequately addresses the concerns expressed by the high court or would comply with the precedent established by the Hamdan ruling.

A woman in Georgia was issued a ticket by a police officer for driving a car with a bumpers sticker on it that said "I'm Tired Of All The BUSHIT".
The woman fought the ticket and won the case, but she's back in court, suing the county for "emotional distress", seeking a clear judgment that her bumper sticker is constitutionally protected speech, and seeking punitive damages against the cop who gave her the ticket.
The county's law against obscene decals and stickers was declared unconstitutional in 1990, which made the officer's actions not merely incorrect, but dated.

1) Epidemiological data is lacking on the number of people who drive under the influence of controlled substances, as is any objective evidence that "zero tolerance" DUID laws have a deterrent effect on drivers or have led to a reduction in the number of motorists driving under the influence of drugs.
There exists no known dose concentration relationship correlating drug metabolite levels in the urine or blood to impairment, nor does there exist a consensus regarding at what concentration levels the detection of a parent drug in the blood or saliva is associated with driver impairment.
Drug testing, particularly blood testing, is an invasive practice that should not be performed unless a police officer or Drug Recognition Expert has first established that a driver is impaired by a substance other than alcohol, and has been placed under arrest.
