	CDNN :: IAFD Releases Report on Death of Free Diver Audrey Mestre
		Mestre, 28, died Oct. 12 while attempting to break the depth record set by her husband, Francisco "Pipin" Ferreras, who also is founder of the IAFD and a world famous free diver.
		She was competing in the "no limits" version of free diving, in which divers take a deep breath, plummet to depths of hundreds of feet using a weighted sled and then rocket back up to the surface when air tanks are inflated.
		Mestre, of France, was awarded the IAFD record posthumously based on a 558-foot practice dive she completed Oct. 9.

		The IAFD, who organised Audrey Mestre's last dive on 12 October 2002 in the Dominican Republic, have published their report into her fatal accident, describing the combination of events which resulted in her death as 'unforseeable'.
		Loic Leferme lashes himself to his sled to prevent separation, and his support divers regularly practice lifting the entire cable and sled to the surface with inflatable bags if any delay occurs on a dive.
		Video footage of the dive taken from the camera on the sled has yet to be released.

		Ferreras' 28-year-old wife, Audrey Mestre, drowned Oct. 12 while trying to break her husband's IAFD record of 531.5 feet achieved off Cozumel, Mexico, in January 2000.
		Her last dive wasn't a record because she didn't complete it, but the IAFD has posthumously recognized a dive to 558 feet completed by Mestre Oct. 9 in a practice dive as a world record.
		They are being blamed for failing to adequately staff the dive with enough safety divers and medical staff, and covering up any mistakes that were made.
