IAI Nesher - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Nesher is an Israeli-built multi-role fighter aircraft based on the French Dassault Mirage V.
The Nesher ("Eagle") was a complete copy of the Mirage 5, except for the use of some Israeli avionics, a Martin-Baker zero-zero ejector seat, and provisions for a wider range of air-to-air missiles, including the Israeli Shafrir heat-seeking missile.
Nesher production was terminated to make way for an improved Mirage derivative that had been in planning in parallel, in which the Atar engine was to be replaced with an Israeli-built General Electric J79 engine, the same engine used on the American F-104 Starfighter and F-4 Phantom II fighters.

The Neshers served in the IAF for just 10 years, and reached the apex of their glory in the Yom Kippur War, during which they scored numerous kills.
Neshers were sold to Argentina, where they were renamed 'Dagger', and saw much action against the British in the Falklands War.

IAI Kfir - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The IAI Kfir is one of the best known examples of the developmental approach to the design and construction of combat aircraft, which consists in the modernization of well-proven airframes to face the challenges posed by an increasingly sophisticated air-combat environment.
In 1983, IAI began to upgrade the Kfir C.2s/TC.2s to a new variant, the Kfir C.7/TC.7, which carried a modified version of the J79-GE-17E powerplant, with an additional 4.45 kN (1,000 lb st) of afterburning thrust, and an enhanced thrust-to-weight ratio.
Developed by IAI for the export market, the Kfir C.10, also known as Kfir 2000, is the latest version of the Kfir family.

The IAI Nesher came about because of a request by Israel to the French for an improved version of the Mirage IIIE (what would become the Mirage V in French service) that could carry more fuel and was optimized as a day fighter with ground attack capability.
Neshers distinguished themselves well during the Yom Kippur War in 1973 racking up an impressive kill tally (there's a well known color photo showing one flying inverted at low altitude, with what is claimed to be the smoke of one of its victims rising in the background).
After their service with the IAF had come to an end, many Neshers were sold to Argentina as Daggers and during the 1982 Falklands War were used in low level attacks on British ships in the waters of San Carlos...

The sudden refusal of the French government to provide the Mirage V, after the proving in combat of the Mirage III for all the world to see in the Six_Day_War, prompted the Dassault to make his gift to Israel in the form of the Mirage V's complete blueprint set, minus that of the Atar engine.

The IAI Kfir (Lion Cub) is actually a redesigned Dassault Mirage 5 with a canard mounted on the air intake.
The Kfir was designed after the IAI had gained experience with the Nesher, which was an unlicensed copy of the Mirage IIICJ with an equally unlicensed Atar 9C turbojet, produced mainly for Israeli service but later exported as the Dagger.
Those first Kfirs were later upgraded to Kfir C2 with small narrow-span fixed canards on the upper air intakes and rectangular strakes behind the ranging radar on the sides of the nose.
