IBM's success in the mid-1960s led to inquiries as to IBM antitrust violations by the U.S. Department of Justice, which filed a complaint for the case U.S. v.
IBM in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, on January 17, 1969.
IBM invented many of the core technologies used in all forms of computing, including the first hard disk drive and the Winchester hard disk drive, the cursor (on computer screens), Dynamic RAM (DRAM), the relational database, Thin Film recording heads, RISC architecture, the Scanning Tunneling Microscope, and the floppy disk.

 IBM 3270 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The IBM 3270 is a class of terminals made by IBM (known as "Display Devices") normally used to communicate with IBM mainframes.
For the same reason, a porting of Lotus 1-2-3 to mainframes with 3279 screens did not meet success because of this lack of interactivity.
The software program TN3270 is a modified version of Telnet which acts as a 3270 terminal emulator and can be used to connect to an IBM mainframe over a network.

Mainframe is an industry term for a large computer.
It was the first of the pioneering line of IBM 700 series mainframe computers, including the 702, 704, 705 and 709.
As mainframe markets shrunk some companies were assimilated by their peers and other congregated into even larger firms.

EBCDIC was the predecessor to ASCII, which was devised in 1968.
All IBM mainframe peripheralss and operating systems used EBCDIC.
There is an EBCDIC Unicode Transformation Format proposed by the Unicode consortium, but it is not intended to be used in open interchange environments.
