  ICC Intercontinental Cup - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The ICC Intercontinental Cup is a cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council as part of its cricket development program.
The ICC have announced that over the next two years the tournament will change, shrinking in size to eight teams who each play every other team, and the matches will also last four days instead of the three days that were played in 2005.
The inaugural ICC Intercontinental Cup was completed on 22 November 2004 when Scotland won the title in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

 Canada to lock horns with USA
The 12-match ICC Intercontinental Cup is being played across four continents between March and November 2004.
The two nations have previously met on four occasions in ICC tournaments, at the 1982, 1986 and 2001 ICC Trophy competitions, and the recent ICC Six Nations Challenge in March with the record standing at 2-2.
The contest at the ICC Six Nations Challenge in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw the USA prevail by six wickets before going on to win the tournament and qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy in England this September.

Under a new format agreed at the recent meeting of the ICC Development Committee, the competition will become an eight-team tournament and in 2006 those teams will be divided into two groups with the winners of each group contesting a final.
It will mean that each side plays a minimum of three four-day matches in the next ICC Intercontinental Cup and seven four-day matches over the 2007–2008 period compared to a minimum of just two three-day matches per year under the existing structure.
Nepal, rated ninth by this method, have been given the chance to play off for a place in the 2006 competition because they are the one side rated inside the top eight in multi-day cricket that is not in the overall top eight because of their one-day form.

The 2005 ICC Intercontinental Cup is a cricket competition for 12 nations from Asia, Africa, North America and Europe.
The United States were going to compete in the North American group, but were expelled from the competition by the ICC because of ongoing political problems within cricket in the US.
The Scots went into this tournament as favourites, being holders of the Intercontinental Cup and the ICC Trophy.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the semifinals and final of the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2004 will be moved back by a day to respect the period of mourning for the former United Arab Emirates President, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who passed away on November 2.
The semifinals, previously scheduled to take place from November 16-18 will now be played from 17-19 while the final has been moved from 20-22 to 21-23, according to an ICC media release.
The UAE is currently in a period of National mourning after the death of its leader and there will be no competitive sporting activities in the region until after Nov. 16.
